
TCU Grabs Both Men's Weekly Conference Awards

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU junior Laszlo Gyurko and senior Kyle Callens are the Mountain West Conference Swimmer and Diver of the Week, the league office announced Tuesday.
It is the second time this year Gyurko has been named the MWC Swimmer of the Week and also the second time Callens has been named the MWC Diver of the Week. In his career, Callens has been named the MWC Diver of the Week on six ocassions.
Gyurko put his name throughout the Mountain West Conference's top-10 lists and TCU's all-time top-five lists at the U.S. Short Course Nationals over the weekend.
In the 100-backstroke, the Szekszard, Hungary, native posted the conference's best time of the year thus far with a 48.25. It is an NCAA "B" cut and is the 17th-fastest time for 2010.
His 100-backstroke time is the second-best all time at TCU and the third-best all-time in the Mountain West Conference.
Gyurko also leads the Mountain West in the 200-backstroke. His 1:47.80 is the best time in the conference for 2010 and is 45th in the NCAA.
In freestyle events, Gyurko's 50-free time of 20.82 is the eighth-best in the MWC for 2010. His 100-free time of 45.56 is the league's sixth-best and his 1:40.03 in the 200-free is sixth-best in the MWC.
With Gyurko swimming the backstroke leg of TCU's 200- and 400- medley relays, TCU posted times of 1:30.34 and 3:19.02, respectively.
Both of those times are third-best in the Mountain West for 2010. The 400-medley time is the fourth-best in TCU history and is 25th in the NCAA for 2010.
The 200-medley mark is the fifth-best in school history and 25th-best in the NCAA for 2010.
In the 200-freestyle relay, Gyurko swam the leadoff leg for a team that touched the wall in 1:23.29. It is the third-fastest time in the conference for 2010 and 46th overall in the NCAA.
Gyurko also swam the first leg of the 400-freestyle relay on the TCU team that touched the wall in 3:02.41. That time is the third-best in the MWC and 42nd-best in the nation.
Finally, Gyurko was also a part of TCU's 800-freestyle relay team that notched a 6:43.44 over the weekend. Their time is the second-best in the conference and 26th-best in the NCAA.
Competing at the Texas Swimming and Diving Hall of Fame Invitational over the week, against some of the country's top divers, Callens placed fifth in the platform dive. He tallied a score of 275.10 in his first platform diving competition of the season.
On the 1-meter springboard, Callens racked up 250.20 points to place 11th. In the 3-meter springboard events, the Deer Park, Texas, native finished ninth with 286.70 points.
Callens is the TCU record holder in the 1-meter springboard and is second on TCU's 3-meter springboard all-time list.
In his TCU career, Callens has been an all-conference performer in both diving events each of his first three years as Frog.
A year ago, Callens was three times named MWC Diver of the Week. He earned the honor once during his sophomore campaign.
