PURPLE UPThere's been a lot of talk about our new Nike uniforms that were unveiled Tuesday. We've heard directly from many of you and want you to know that Coach Patterson will make sure we're "Purpled Up" when we take the field in Pasadena. Along those lines, we want to make sure all of you are "Purpled Up" as well. As a follow-up to the great success we had with our "White Out" in Salt Lake City, we'll be looking to paint Southern California purple. Our on-line store (http://shop.gofrogs.com/search/purple) and the TCU Bookstore are great places to start. Please make sure to wear purple leading up to the game and especially when entering the Rose Bowl on New Year's Day.
FROG FEVER
Congratulations to the Horned Frog Nation for allowing us to sell out our Rose Bowl allotment of 20,000 tickets in just four days. We were then fortunate to secure additional tickets and sell those out as well, taking care of everyone on our waiting list. We made an incredible statement on the passion for TCU football.
THANK YOU STUDENTS
It's truly special to be on the TCU campus right now. You can just feel the excitement about the Frogs playing in "The Granddaddy of Them All." The best example has to be our great and loyal student body braving the elements and camping out in front of the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum last week to pick up their Rose Bowl tickets. It was quite a scene, and Coach Patterson and I enjoyed visiting with them. They are true Frogs and we very much appreciate them.
PRE-GAME FUN
We know you have plenty of pre-game entertainment options, but The Official TCU Ultimate Rose Bowl Tailgate Party will be Saturday, Jan. 1, at 10 a.m. at Brookside Golf Club, just outside the stadium. Please contact Kristi Hoban (k.hoban@tcu.edu or 817-257-5427) in our alumni office for more information. The adult price of $75 includes a lunch buffet and unlimited beverages (beer, wine, soda and bottled water). Children 12-and-under are $55. Kids 2-and-under are free.
SIMPLY THE BEST
Congratulations to football's Jake Kirkpatrick on winning the Rimington Trophy as the nation's best center. Jake definitely defines what you look for in a student-athlete on and off the field. We're very proud of him. Can you believe he didn't start playing football until his senior year of high school?
RAKING IN POSTSEASON HONORS
Congratulations also go to the eight All-Americans we have in football, including five first-team selections: Tank Carder, Wayne Daniels, Tejay Johnson, Jeremy Kerley and Jake Kirkpatrick. In addition to our coaches, our strength and conditioning and athletic training staffs do an excellent job in developing these young men into All-Americans.
SURFING THE NET
We hope you enjoy our new-look GoFrogs.com and find it user friendly and easy to navigate. A special tip of the cap to assistant director of athletics media relations Matt Hoover for spearheading our redesign efforts.
CHRISTMAS SHOPPING
We still have four suites available on the West side of Amon G. Carter Stadium. Please contact associate athletics director Davis Babb (d.babb@tcu.edu or 817-257-5658). Our on-line store (http://shop.gofrogs.com), featuring Rose Bowl merchandise, also has plenty of gift ideas.
FROM THE HARDWOOD
Our men's basketball program is off to a 7-4 start with a nice win at Texas Tech last week. The next home game is Tuesday at 7 p.m. versus Northwestern State. Our new 3-point play pack is another nice holiday gift idea. The 3-point play pack is $33 and includes one ticket to home games on Jan. 5 (San Diego State), Feb. 9 (UNLV) and Feb. 26 (New Mexico) as well as one food voucher per game (hot dogs/nachos and a drink) and a season t-shirt. We also have Domino's Day. For $12, you can buy a ticket to the Jan. 5 San Diego State game, a soda and a personal pan pizza. For more information or to purchase tickets, please visit our Web site (www.GoFrogs.com) or call the TCU Athletics Ticket Office at (817) 257-FROG.
MORE ROUNDBALL FOR YOU
Our women's team continues its very challenging non-conference schedule next Wednesday, Dec. 22, at 6:30 p.m. when the Georgia Bulldogs come to the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. We've already played three ranked teams and Georgia is receiving votes. It's always exciting to watch TCU senior Helena "Ice" Sverrisdottir, this week's Mountain West Conference Player of the Week.
SPEED BABY
Jessica Young represented our track and field program very well in Saturday's season-opening indoor meet at Texas A&M. Her 7.23 time in the 60 meters was a school record and the fastest mark in the NCAA this year.
SEMESTER WINDING DOWN
It's a little quiet on the practice fields and basketball courts this week as we're in the midst of final exams. While the nation is aware of our athletics success, it might not be known that last fall and spring saw our student-athletes record their highest grade-point averages since tracking begin in 1998.
KEEP IN TOUCH
Please let us know if you ever have any questions or concerns regarding our program. This is also your program and we value your feedback.
Go Frogs!
