NOTES ON A SCORECARD
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone! We hope you have a great Holiday weekend. If you have family in town and are looking for some great entertainment options, make sure to drop by campus Saturday. Our volleyball team closes its season with a 1 p.m. home match versus South Florida. You can then walk across the street to the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum to see our men's basketball team host Houston at 3 p.m.
UNIVERSITY CLOSED
With the Holiday weekend, our campus will be closed Wednesday. We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause in reaching offices or folks within our department. We do have plenty of tickets available for purchase on game day for our Saturday home contests in volleyball and men's basketball.
RENOVATION UNDERWAY
The renovation of Amon G. Carter Stadium has begun. If you haven't had a chance to drop by campus, you might be amazed to see what's already taken place on the West grandstands. Please be observant, though, of the caution signs. Lots 1 and 2, access behind the North end zone and the front of the Justin Center have been closed. The implosion is set for Sunday, Dec. 5, at 8 a.m. We'll keep you posted on potential viewing locations.
SUITES AVAILABLE
We once again thank our donors for making the Amon G. Carter Stadium renovation possible. We still have four suites available on the press box side. If interested in the purchase of a suite, please contact associate athletics director Davis Babb at d.babb@tcu.edu or (817) 257-5658.
SUCCESSFUL CAR WASH
I'm not sure you can put a dollar figure on the exposure we received on ESPN this past weekend. We very much appreciate Gary Patterson making the trip to Bristol, Conn., for what ESPN calls its "Car Wash." Coach appeared Friday on a variety of ESPN television and radio shows as well as various on-line outlets. His day began with Mike and Mike and continued with spots on the likes of SportsCenter, College Football Live, First Take and SportsNation. We then had the opportunity for an on-set appearance Saturday on College GameDay from just outside Wrigley Field in Chicago. It's an incredible statement on the national prominence of our football program to receive that type of visibility on an open date.
BOWLING WITH THE FROGS
We've had a very positive response thus far on last week's bowl ticket mailing to season-ticket holders and Frog Club members. Please note the Dec. 8 deadline to request your tickets to all possible bowl games for us. Make sure to get your orders in early. We'll know our destination Dec. 5.
MILESTONE WINS
Congratulations to our longtime swimming and diving coach Richard Sybesma on Friday's men's win at Wyoming. It was the milestone 400th victory in our program's history. Making the occasion even more special is that all 400 wins have come under Coach Sybesma's direction. He's the only coach we've had in the 32-year history of our swimming and diving program.
FROM THE HARDWOOD
Season tickets remain available for our men's and women's basketball programs. Jeff Mittie's women's team is ranked 21st nationally and in the Virgin Islands this weekend for a very challenging three-game tournament with contests against West Virginia, Iowa State and Virginia. Their next home game is next Thursday, Dec. 2, versus Houston. After Saturday's home men's game with Houston, we'll host the USC Trojans Monday at 7 p.m.
HONOR ROLL
The student-athletes in our football program continue to receive accolades. Safety Tejay Johnson is one of three finalists for the Jim Thorpe Award, recognizing the nation's top defensive back. He'll be headed to Florida in a few weeks for ESPN's College Football Awards Show. Andy Dalton was announced as one of five finalists for the Johnny Unitas Golden Arm Award, presented to the top senior quarterback in the country. Combined with Jake Kirkpatrick in the running for the Rotary Lombardi Award, we have three football student-athletes in the finalist stage for national awards. Additionally, wide receiver Bart Johnson was named an Academic All-American. Gary Patterson is also a finalist for the Eddie Robinson Coach of the Year Award.
MORE KUDOS
How about Emily Carter and her TCU record 43 points in last week's win over SMU! Emily extended her streak of consecutive free-throws made to 60, second-longest in NCAA history, before she missed on an attempt Friday at UTSA. Emily was named the Mountain West Conference Women's Basketball Player of the Week.
STREAKING
Our national championship rifle team extended its winning streak to 18 with a victory at perennial powerhouse Alaska-Fairbanks.
