Rifle Stretches Streak To 18 With Win At Alaska

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU rifle team continues its torrid streak, stretching its undefeated streak to 18 straight matches, including a perfect 8-0 mark in 2010. The Horned Frogs defeated perennial powerhouse Alaska-Fairbanks, 4,680-4,658, Sunday.
Three Frogs fired aggregate scores of 1170, including Catherine Green, who matched her career-high aggregate. Also tallying an aggregate score of 1170 were Caitlin Morrissey and Sarah Beard.
In air rifle, the Frogs dominated the competition, firing five of the top seven scores. Behind Morrissey's first-place finish, Beard fired a 590 to finish second. Tied for fourth place were Green and Mattie Brogdon, who both fired a 589. Sarah Scherer rounded out the Frog scorers with a tally of 588. The five Frogs helped defeat Alaska by a score of 2,360-2,346.
A much tighter affair in smallbore saw the Frogs come away with a 2,320-2,312 victory. Green was the Frogs' top performer after firing a 581, a mark that was second among all shooters. Both Scherer and Beard fired a 580 to finish right behind Green. Brogdon reeled off a 579 and Morrissey rounded out the field with a 578.
The Frogs will remain in Alaska for another match that is slated to take place all day Tuesday. The contest will be the final match of 2010 as the team will take a break from their schedule. The season resumes January 16 with a trip to Air Force.
