NOTES ON A SCORECARDHow about those Frogs on the gridiron! We were able to pick up our seventh victory of the season with a win over BYU last weekend and host Air Force Saturday at 7 p.m. We have enough home athletic events in a 72-hour span to keep even the most diehard Horned Frog fan hopping. Make sure to drop by the Rec Center Thursday at 6:30 p.m. and Saturday at 1 p.m. as our volleyball team hosts Utah and BYU, respectively. Our men's swimming and diving team will begin defense of its Mountain West Conference championship Friday with a 4 p.m. meet against Air Force.
HOMECOMING
Homecoming is always a special time on a college campus and there's definitely a buzz around our great university this week. At halftime of Saturday's football game, we'll be crowing our Coming Home Queen as well as Mr. and Mrs. TCU. All the festivities begin Friday with our annual parade and then FrogFest, a great event for families, from 6 to 9 p.m. in the Campus Commons.
STADIUM RENOVATION
We are incredibly excited about the future of Amon G. Carter Stadium. During our transition phase, there are three primary areas of focus - a reduced capacity for the 2011 season, corresponding parking and seating relocations and additional parking and seating adjustments for the completed project in 2012. Once again, the goal of our renovated football home is to better enhance the football fan experience and upgrade amenities. In 2005, our Board of Trustees approved the Horned Frog Priority Points System that will be used for applicable ticket allocations. We are extremely grateful for the longtime support from many of you and believe a fair system will be in place. We will continually keep you in the loop. Your participation and input is much appreciated and incredibly helpful to us as we work together through this very difficult process of developing our new Amon G. Carter Stadium. We have learned a lot from everyone who attended the Town Hall meetings, watched them live on the video stream or followed the media coverage. Everything about this project is a team effort.
LET'S GO TO THE VIDEO
Those at the Town Hall Meetings were treated to the unveiling of an incredibly well done video on Amon G. Carter Stadium's history. It was put together by Concussion Advertising in Fort Worth and is now posted on our Web site (www.GoFrogs.com). If you haven't seen the video yet, please make a point to check it out.
IT'S A SELLOUT
We only have standing-room only tickets left for Saturday's football game with Air Force. All seats have been sold. We're on pace to set a single-season attendance record for the second straight year and should hit the 40,000 mark in average attendance for the first time in our program's history.
FAREWELL GAME
Our existing Amon G. Carter Stadium has been a great home for TCU football for 80 years, and we'll be giving it the proper sendoff it deserves at the home finale on Nov. 13 versus San Diego State. In addition to all our past football lettermen being recognized, we'll have a commemorative cup available for purchase. A complimentary publication, chronicling Amon G. Carter Stadium's rich history, will be available for the first 10,000 fans in attendance. There will also be a post-game fireworks show.
FROGS AND THE WORLDWIDE LEADER
Our football program received excellent national exposure Sunday night when head coach Gary Patterson appeared live on ESPN's show to unveil the initial BCS standings. We also have several other national hits coming later this week. The publicity we receive from the success of our football program is incredible for not only our athletics program, but also the brand marketing efforts for our entire university.
TEACHING LIFE LESSONS
Our CHAMPS/Life Skills program focuses on areas for our student-athletes that will help them beyond the playing field. On Monday night, we had over 50 student-athletes attend an etiquette dinner in the Moncrief Club that taught proper dining tips. Some of our other sessions include dressing for success, interviewing skills and resume writing.
TALKING HOOPS
The Frog Club reminds you that basketball season is right around the corner and the Frog Club will host a special Basketball Preview Luncheon for both the men's and women's teams on Tuesday, Nov. 2, in the Kelly Alumni & Visitors Center. The luncheon starts at 12 noon. Also, reserved parking for basketball is back again this year. Go to www.tcufrogclub.com or call (817) 257-7700 for more information.
DEADLINE PASSED
Our deadline for season-ticket renewals for men's and women's basketball was Monday. We're very encouraged by ticket sales to date and hope you'll support our programs. The season openers are just a few weeks away, and we have some very attractive opponents coming to the Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. For more information on tickets, please visit GoFrogs.com, our ticket office in the DMC or call (817) 257-FROG (3764).
FROGS FOR THE CURE
A special thanks goes to Ann Louden and her incredible vision in organizing our Frogs for the Cure efforts. The entire week was a great buildup to Saturday's game, culminating in a tremendous halftime program. Those who have been around since our first Frogs for the Cure game in 2005 have said this year was the absolute best. As our head football coach will point out, we also remained undefeated in Frogs for the Cure games.
