
Records Fall as TCU Rifle Tops UTEP

FORT WORTH, Texas- The woman's rifle team won its match against the UTEP Miners today at the TCU Rifle Range by a score of 4,649-4,630. On their way to victory, the Frogs set a new team record for smallbore with a cumulative score of 2316. Today's contest was the last match before the NCAA qualifier match against Air Force.
Junior Erin Lorenzen continued her momentum by setting an individual 3x20 smallbore record score of 587. The new record was good enough to earn Lorenzen the individual smallbore win. The other three smallbore counters all had a good day on the range. Simone Riford followed Lorenzen, firing a 580. Freshman Mattie Brogdon and Lauren Sullivan turned in scores of 576 and 573 respectively. Junior Emily Paper matched Brogdon's score of 576 while Tanya Gorin turned in a 566.
Air rifle went to the Miners by a close margin. After the dust settled, the final air rifle score was 2339-2333 in the Miner's favor. Simone Riford came out on top firing a 588. Her score trailed the air rifle winner, Andrea Palafox of UTEP, by one point. Mattie Brogdon and Erin Lorenzen turned in two strong scores of 584 during the match. Lauren Sullivan tallied 577 points in the Frog's victory.
White team members, Jenna Colquhoun and Bonnie Morgan also were able to see action against UTEP. Morgan fired a 579 while Colquhoun turned in a 554.
The next rifle match will take place on Feb. 14 against Air Force. The results of the match will help determine the placement of the eight teams that will compete during the NCAA National Championships.
