COLUMBUS, Ohio -- TCU's Gary Patterson has been selected as the 2009 recipient of the Woody Hayes Award, presented annually by the Touchdown Club of Columbus to the college football coach of the year.
The award is named after Ohio State coaching legend Woody Hayes.
Patterson has led fourth-ranked TCU to the first 12-0 record in program history. The Horned Frogs are Mountain West Conference champions and on the verge of their first BCS appearance.
Patterson was named earlier this week as the American Football Coaches Association Region 5 Coach of the Year.
Patterson is also the Mountain West Conference Coach of the Year. It's his third conference coach of the year accolade in the last eight seasons. He is one of three finalists for the Maxwell Football Club's George Munger Award, honoring the nation's top collegiate coach.
The 2009 Horned Frogs have just 13 seniors on the roster with only six starting.
The Woody Hayes Trophy will be presented during the 55th-annual Touchdown Club of Columbus Sports Awards banquet on Feb. 6 at The Lifestyle Communities Pavilion in Columbus, Ohio. For additional information, visit www.touchdownclubofcolumbus.com.
