
Late Second Half Rally Leads Shockers Past Frogs, 80-68

WICHITA, Kan. - Wichita State out-scored TCU by a 20-10 count over the final 10:02 en route to securing an 80-68 victory at Charles Koch Arena on Saturday evening in Wichita, Kan.
The Frogs came out slow in the first half of action and fell behind the home team by as many as 16 points. Following a pair of free throws by Clevin Hannah, the Shockers took a 28-12 lead with 6:25 remaining in the first half. The home team was able to maintain a double-digit lead for the remainder of the half and went into the locker rooms with a 36-24 lead.
In the second half of action, the Frogs found their shooting stroke after Zvonko Buljan and Edvinas Ruzgas each connected on field goals. The Frogs would continue to nibble at the lead and a combination of strong defense and the hot shooting of Greg Hill allowed TCU to get within two points at 53-51 with 10:02 remaining in the game.
Hill finished with a career-high 17 points, including four three-pointers, with 15 of those points coming in the second half of action.
Once the Frogs got within striking distance, the Shockers quickly put together an 8-0 run over the next 1:36 to extend their lead to 59-51. Following a three-pointer by Hill, the Frogs got within six points at 62-56 with 7:39 remaining in the game, but Wichita State got its lead back to double digits at 72-61 following a lay-in by JT Durley. Over the final 10:02 of action, the Shockers connected on 8-of-11 shooting from the field, including 11-of-12 at the free throw line en route to improving to 9-1 on the season.
Zvonko Buljan finished with a career-high 29 points on 11-of-16 shooting to go along with six rebounds and five assists in 37 minutes of action. In addition, Ruzgas added 10 points and four rebounds in 36 minutes of action.
Durley led the Shockers with 19 points while Toure' Murry and Hannah finished with 17 and 16 points, respectively.
The Frogs will be back in action on Sunday (Dec. 20) when TCU welcomes St. Gregory's (Okla.) to Daniel-Meyer Coliseum. Game time is set for 7:00 p.m.
