FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Athletics Department selected Edgar Crespo and Kayla Duncan as its Student-Athletes of the Week for their efforts this past weekend for the Horned Frogs.
Duncan enjoyed a full week of play at the 2009 Riviera/ITA All-American Championships in Pacific Palisades, Calif. The sophomore advanced to the consolation qualifying singles semifinals, boasting a 6-2 record for the week. Currently unranked in the Campbell's/ITA preseason singles rankings, Duncan upended four opponents listed in the top-100 this week.
Crespo led the Frogs to four of their six event wins over SMU and Incarnate Word at the North Texas Relays. Competing in his first meet at TCU, Crespo jump-started TCU's winning ways by taking the opening event with a 52.61 leadoff split in the 300-fly relay. The sophomore followed by anchoring the Frogs' winning 300-breast relay (2:54.97) and earning his third victory as the breaststroke member of the victorious 400-medley relay (3:23.60). The night ended by claiming his fourth win as the leadoff leg in the 400-IM relay (3:31.20), swimming a split-time of 52.57. TCU topped SMU for the first time in program history, claiming first place in Mansfield.
