
TCU rifle tops Nebraska and Ole Miss

LINCOLN, Neb.-The TCU rifle team finished first in a three-way match defeating Nebraska and the Mississippi Rebels. The win is the second time in TCU's history that the Frogs have beat the Cornhuskers. The first victory came last year. TCU scored 4,619 points, followed by Nebraska's 4,577 and taking third was Mississippi with a score of 4,573. Erin Lorenzen's air rifle score of 588 was good enough to take the individual air rifle title.
Along with Lorenzen's 588, she also was able to fire a perfect round of 100 in Lincoln. Lauren Sullivan had a strong showing in air rifle with a score of 585. Freshman, Mattie Brogdon also stayed consistent with a 582. Simone Riford and Emily Paper also added to the victory with two scores of 579 and 575, respectively. Senior, Tanya Gorin fired a 566.
Emily Paper led the way in smallbore with a score of 578. Her strong performance left her tied with Ryann McGough of Nebraska for first place in the discipline. Tanya Gorin and Erin Lorenzen fired two perfect 100-point rounds from the prone position. Gorin ended the day with 565 and Lorenzen finished second in smallbore with a 576. Simone Riford chipped in with 573 points while Mattie Brogdon fired a 571. Lauren Sullivan shot a 565 in smallbore.
The Horned Frogs will be on the road again when they face the UTEP Miners in El Paso to close out January. The match against the Miners will be one of the last before the NCAA qualifying match against Air Force. The match will determine the post-season position for TCU.
