
TCU honors Athletes of the Week

FORT WORTH -- Track and field's Jonathan Jackson and Neidra Covington are TCU's Male and Female Athletes of the Week. The Gulliver's Road Warrior of the Week award has been given to Maria Alvarez of women's swimming and diving.Jackson, a senior from Grand Prairie, Texas, captured the triple jump title with an NCAA automatic leap of 16.26m (53-04.25) at the Mountain West Conference Championships. His jump broke his own school record in the event set earlier this winter and is currently ranked as the third-best leap in the NCAA. This also ranks Jackson as the third-best triple jump mark in the MWC men's championship history. He placed second in the long jump at the MWC Championships.
Covington successfully defended her MWC crown in the women`s triple jump with an NCAA automatic leap of 13.41m (44-00.00). The sophomore from St. Petersburg, Fla., broke her own school record in the event and posted the fifth-best mark in MWC women's championship history. Covington also won the women's long jump with an NCAA provisional leap of 6.25m (20-06.50). Her jump is currently the 12th best leap in the NCAA and a personal-best mark.
Alvarez, a TCU freshman from Cali, Colombia, set three school records over the weekend at the MWC Championships. She posted a third-place finish in the 1650-free and set a TCU record in the 1000-free during the event. Alvarez placed sixth in the 500-free with a school-record time of 4:56.58. She also earned a 10th-place showing in the 200-free with a new TCU mark of 1:51.10.
