Frogs edged by No. 15 Oklahoma State

FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 46 TCU men's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season on Sunday, dropping a 4-3 decision to No. 15 Oklahoma State at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. TCU drops to 9-1 on the season with the loss, while Oklahoma State improves to 4-4 overall."It was both a discouraging and encouraging day for us," said TCU head coach Dave Borelli. "We should've won the doubles point and that took a little wind out of our sails. We're both good teams and I liked what I saw from our group. It takes a really good team to beat us, and Oklahoma State is a top team."
In doubles play, the TCU duo of Zach Nichols and Jack Seider pushed their season record to 10-0 with a dominant 8-1 victory over Oklahoma State's Egor Sobolta and Anton Bobytskyi at the No. 3 position.
After a tough loss at the No. 2 position, the attention centered to the top spot between TCU's 14th-ranked duo of Kriegler Brink and Cosmin Cotet and the No. 54 Cowboy team of Oleksandr Nedovyesov and Nathan Byrnes. The Frogs had two match points but couldn't finish as Oklahoma State took the match by a score of 9-8(3) to clinch the doubles point.
Brink, a native of Gauteng, South Africa, pushed his record to 9-0 in singles play this season with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over Mark Kepler to pull the match back to 2-1.
The Frogs would drop matches at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions as Oklahoma State clinched the victory, but managed to get two more wins after the match had been decided.
Cotet, a senior from Iasi, Romania, defeated his second ranked player in as many days with a 4-6, 6-2, 7-6(5) upset victory over No. 10 Nedovyesov.
Nichols closed the match with a 6-2, 6-7(5), 6-4 win over Nathan Byrnes at the No. 5 slot. Nichols pushed his combined record to 20-0 this season with the two wins on Sunday.
The Frogs will return to action on March 8 to host Oklahoma at 6 p.m.
