FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU Athletics Department recently completed a winter clothing drive over the holiday season.Overall, the TCU Athletics Social Committee delivered 12 full bags of new and used coats, sweaters, socks, mittens, pants and shoes to the Catholic Charities specifically for the Assessment Center and the Union Gospel Mission.
"The social committee is overwhelmed at the generosity of our staff. This type of community involvement is a wonderful testimony to the entire Athletics department, which includes coaching staffs, support staff, graduate assistants and student athletes," said Athletics Social Committee Chair Jeanette Bradley.
In November, the committee donated over 104 Thanksgiving meals, including grocery gift cards to the Alliance for Children's annual basket drive. The 104 baskets marked the second straight year TCU has donated over 100 meals and exceeded its goal as a department.
The social committee later this spring will be working with the Fort Worth Big Brothers Big Sisters to fill backpacks for the 2008-09 school year. Its goal is to fill 50 different backpacks with basic school supplies students need to start a school year.
The Lady Frog basketball team also exhibited its holiday spirit Wednesday by taking part in another of its annual community service projects.
Several players visited the Tarrant Area Food Bank to volunteer a few hours of their day helping sort food donated to the organization during the holiday season.
The Food Bank visit was one of several projects the squad regularly undertakes to help give back to the community. Others that Lady Frogs have completed during the past year include elementary school visits and free clinics for area youth. Players also have signed autographs following each home game this season.
