FORT WORTH, Texas - R.J. Hesselberg and Scott McCracken swept the men's side of the MWC Swimmer and Diver of the Week Awards, the league office announced on Wednesday. The recognition comes after the Frogs edged Air Force by a score of 131-112 on Friday.
Hesselberg was named the MWC Men's Diver of the Week for the third consecutive time this season after taking the top spot in the three-meter event and placing second in the one-meter dive. Hesselberg has now earned the weekly honor seven times in his TCU career.
In the one-meter, Hesselberg recorded a score of 279.38 to place second behind TCU's Kyle Callens, who edged Hesselberg with a score of 279.60. With the Frogs in a tight battle with the Falcons, Hesselberg set a personal best in the three-meter with a score of 347.33. The score, which places second in school history, was over 76 points higher than the next competitor, and is currently tops in the MWC by over 61 points.
McCracken was named the MWC Men's Swimmer of the Week after sweeping the sprint events against Air Force. In the 50-free, McCracken recorded the conference's top time of 20.79. McCracken notched another critical win in the 100-free, recording a time of 46.85 to edge Air Force senior T.J. Cowling by two-hundredths of a second.
With the Frogs leading by a narrow margin heading into the final event, McCracken and the 400-free relay team put together a gutsy performance to take the top spot in a time of 3:05.86 to clinch the victory for TCU. The time currently ranks second in the MWC.
The TCU men's and women's swimming and diving teams will return to action on Saturday at 12 p.m. to play host to Wyoming at the University Recreation Center.
