Team Notes
*TCU will go to a bowl game for the ninth time in 10 seasons while clinching its eighth winning record in the last 10 campaigns.
*TCU set a single-game school and Mountain West Conference record, while tying an NCAA mark, with 111 offensive plays (69 rushing, 42 passing). The Frogs' previous record was 100 snaps (21 rushing, 79 passing) in a 56-35 loss at Houston on Nov. 3, 1990. The former MWC record was 105 plays by BYU against Hawaii in 2001. TCU equals the Football Bowl Subdivision (formerly I-A) mark of 111 plays set by Texas Tech against Iowa State in 2003.
*The Horned Frogs had 39 first downs to set a single-game TCU record and tie a Mountain West Conference mark. The previous TCU high was 36 on two occasions, against Houston in 2003 and Texas Tech in 1990. TCU had 24 first downs in the first half against San Diego State. The MWC record is shared with Air Force who had 39 first downs versus BYU in 2005. The NCAA mark for first downs is 45 by Texas Tech against Iowa State in 2003.
*TCU's 694 yards of offense were a season-high and its third-best single-game total, trailing only 782 yards versus Houston in 2003 and 736 against the Cougars in 1990. The Frogs had 388 first-half yards against San Diego State.
*TCU did not commit a penalty in a game for the first time since the 1971 season. The Frogs entered the contest as the MWC's second-most penalized team, averaging 6.8 flags and 60.7 penalty yards each contest.
*TCU rallying from a 17-point first-quarter deficit just missed its largest come-from-behind victory in the seven-year tenure of head coach Gary Patterson. The Frogs were down 18 points at BYU before posting a 51-50 victory on Sept. 24, 2005.
*The 97-yard first-quarter touchdown pass by San Diego State's Kevin O'Connell to Chaz Schilens was the longest play from scrimmage by an opponent in TCU history.
*The Frogs allowed 17 first-quarter points for the first time since surrendering 21 to BYU on Sept. 24, 2005, a game TCU rallied to win 51-50 in overtime.
*TCU improved to 26-3 in Saturday games since the start of the 2005 season.
*TCU is 9-1 in November games over the last three seasons.
*The Frogs won for the 19th consecutive time when holding the edge in time of possession.
*TCU has won 21 in a row when rushing for at least 167 yards. The Frogs are 29-2 under Patterson when totaling more than 200 yards on the ground.
*TCU had six rushing touchdowns to set a 2007 single-game high for the second straight contest. The Frogs ran for four scores last week in a 34-10 win over UNLV.
*Two former Frogs and current National Football League players were on the TCU sideline: San Diego Charger tailback and 2006 NFL Most Valuable Player LaDainian Tomlinson and Baltimore Raven defensive lineman Zarnell Fitch. The Chargers and Ravens play Sunday at Qualcomm Stadium.
Individual Notes
*Tailback Joseph Turner's 226 rushing yards on 33 carries are the most by a Frog since Lonta Hobbs ran for 287 yards on 33 attempts in a 27-20 win over Memphis on Nov. 30, 2002. Turner was making just his third collegiate start.
*Turner had the 14th-best single-game rushing performance in TCU history. LaDainian Tomlinson (1997-00) has seven of the top-13 efforts.
*Turner posted the 23rd 200-yard rushing game at TCU.
*Turner is the first Frog to rush for four touchdowns in a contest since Jeff Ballard in a 49-28 win over New Mexico on Oct. 1, 2005. It ties for the third-best single-game rushing touchdown total in TCU history.
*Turner posted the second 100-yard rushing game of his career. He had 106 first-half yards. Turner's previous career-high was 115 yards on 28 carries earlier this month in a 37-0 victory over New Mexico.
*Quarterback Andy Dalton passed for 298 yards to extend his TCU freshman single-season passing record to 2,210 yards. He became just the seventh quarterback in Frog history to throw for 2,000 yards in a season. He missed his third 300-yard game of the year by two yards.
*Dalton's 2,210 yards passing rank fourth on the Frogs' single-season chart. He is 28 yards shy of surpassing Max Knake (2,237, 1995) for third while needing 185 yards to move ahead of Jeff Ballard (2,394, 2006) for the second-best season total in TCU history. Knake (2,624, 1994) is the Frogs' all-time season leader.
*Walter Bryant had a career-high seven receptions. He set a new personal-best with five first-half catches. Bryant's previous-high was four grabs in the 2005 Houston Bowl win over Iowa State.
*Bryant's seven receptions are the most by a Frog this season. The previous top mark was six catches by Ryan Christian at Air Force and Ervin Dickerson at BYU.
*Chris Manfredini's 33-yard fourth-quarter field goal was his 10th-consecutive made attempt. He is 20-of-25 on the season while also going 35-of-35 on PATs.
*Wide receiver Jeremy Kerley, the lone true freshman to see action on offense for TCU this season, had his two-longest receptions of the season with 19- and 29-yard catches. He also made his first appearance as a punt returner with a fair catch in the second quarter.
*Dalton's 14-yard second-quarter scoring run was his third rushing touchdown in the last two games. He has four rushing scores on the season.
*A first-quarter 48-yard pass completion from Dalton to Donald Massey represented TCU's third-longest play from scrimmage this season.
*The 2-yard second-quarter touchdown run by Christian was his second rushing score of the season and his career.
*Wide receiver Curtis Clay had his second reception of the season with a 10-yard second-quarter grab.
