SAN DIEGO (AP) -- Joseph Turner ran for a career-high 226 yards and four touchdowns to lead TCU to a 45-33 win over San Diego State on Saturday night.
Turner helped the Horned Frogs (7-5, 4-4 Mountain West) overcome San Diego State's 17-0 first quarter lead. He scored his first touchdown on a 5-yard run late in the second quarter to give TCU its first lead of the game at 21-17.
Turner then added TD runs of 9, 14 and 41 yards in the third quarter as the Horned Frogs took a 42-27 lead.
TCU's offense ran up 694 yards in total offense on 111 plays and made 39 first downs, the most ever allowed by San Diego State. The Horned Frogs also held the ball for 39 minutes, 19 seconds compared to only 20:41 for the Aztecs.
Andy Dalton, who scored on a 14-yard run, completed 23 of 39 passes for 298 yards for TCU.
San Diego State (4-7, 3-4) was coming off a 55-23 loss at Air Force last week where the Aztecs allowed 670 total yards in offense.
The Aztecs, who gained 441 yards in total offense, took a 17-0 lead in the first quarter, 14 of those points coming after TCU turnovers.
Kevin O'Connell threw a 97-yard touchdown pass to Chaz Schilens after Dalton's fumbled snap at the 1-yard line. It was the longest pass play in San Diego State history and the longest play ever allowed by TCU. Following another turnover, Davon Brown scored on a 3-yard run for a 17-0 lead at the 5:43 mark.
O'Connell, who had a 12-yard touchdown run late in the game, also threw a 6-yard TD pass to Brett Swain with 34 seconds left to take a 24-21 halftime lead. O'Connell completed 26 of 51 passes for 366 yards.
