FORT WORTH, Texas - Junior diver R.J. Hesselberg was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Diver of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. The weekly award is the fourth consecutive honor for Hesselberg, setting a new MWC record.
Hesselberg won the three-meter diving event against Wyoming on Friday with a score of 316.65, which was 18 points higher than the closest competitor. Hesselberg also placed second in the one-meter event, recording a score of 270.53 in six dives.
Hesselberg has won five events on the season, including a sweep of the diving events at the CSU Early Bird Relay. Hesselberg's score of 347.33 in the three-meter currently ranks first in the Mountain West Conference this season by nearly 49 points, while his score of 289.20 in the one-meter is also tops in the conference.
By winning the award for the fourth consecutive week, Hesselberg breaks the previous record of three straight weeks held by Air Force's Brady Lindberg in 2002-03 and Utah's Sterling Richards in 2005-06. Richards holds the record for most awards in a season with six selections. Hesselberg has now earned the conference accolade eight times in his career at TCU.
The TCU swimming and diving teams will host UNLV on Friday at 4 p.m. at the University Recreation Center.
