FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU athletics department has announced the hiring of Jason Byrne as director of athletics marketing.Byrne replaces Jeff Crane, who departed for a similar position at the University of South Carolina.
Byrne comes to the Horned Frogs after working in various capacities with Florida State the last eight years. He was most recently a corporate account executive with Host Communications, the multi-media rights holder for the Seminoles.
Byrne served as interim co-general manager of Host's Florida State property from August 2005 to February 2006. He was the Seminoles' assistant director of promotions for four years (2001-04) and a marketing assistant for one year (2000-01).
"While disappointed to see Jeff depart, I am thrilled that Jason will be leading our marketing efforts," TCU associate athletics director for external operations Scott Kull said. "With the high standard that Jeff set for the position, this was a very important hire for TCU. Jason is a proven marketer and with the momentum that we have in our sports programs right now, I think our potential for selling tickets and driving revenue is on the rise."
Byrne helped Host exceed its sponsorship sales goal with Florida State while leading a staff that generated $4 million in ad sales revenue. He also oversaw the Seminoles Radio Network crew and its more than 40 affiliates.
During his time in Tallahassee, Byrne also directed Florida State's game program vending operation for football, basketball and baseball. Revenue goals were exceeded each year. He also developed group ticket sales plans for football, basketball and baseball.
In addition to working in promotions, Byrne coordinated and supervised "Seminole Village," the football pre-game fan-sponsor interactive area.
"I am very excited to be joining the TCU family," Byrne said. "TCU is a great place and this is a tremendous opportunity. I was attracted to the position by the passion that exists for the Frogs among our constituents. TCU has a lot to be proud of, and I'm looking forward to being a part of the TCU community."
A 1996 graduate of James Madison, Byrne received a Master's degree in sport administration from Florida State in August 2000.
Byrne began his career at Florida State as a graduate assistant in the Seminoles' media relations office.
