FORT WORTH, Texas - Senior Celeste Green will become the first shooter in the history of the TCU rifle program to compete in the NCAA Championships when she travels to Colorado Springs, Colo. on Friday, March 10. She will participate in the individual three-position smallbore competition to be held at the Olympic Training Center.
The 2003 NRA All-American qualified with a 60-shot smallbore score of 586 in the team's victory over the Virginia Military Institute at the NRA Sectionals and NCAA Qualifier in Lexington, Va. Feb. 11-12. The mark set a new school record for the event, surpassing Green's previous high of 581 that she had set against Air Force on Feb. 4.
Green's performance also helped the team to a year-end ranking of 15th in the nation. TCU combined a regular-season average of 4,551 and a qualifying score of 4,573 for a total average of 4,562 to earn the placement. The Frogs' previous high ranking had come after the 1997-98 season when they finished 26th overall.
Only three individual qualifiers were chosen to compete in the smallbore competition. Four shooters from each of the top eight teams will also participate. Matthew Hamilton of Army and Rachel Glenn of UTEP were selected as the final two individual qualifiers.
