FT. WORTH, Texas - Jackson Langat of the TCU men's track team and women's basketball player Lorie Butler-Rayford have been tabbed as the male and female student-athletes of the week, respectively. It is the first weekly honor for both athletes this season.
Langat was among the star performers for TCU at the Tyson Invitational last weekend. In the first day of competition, he beat several professional athletes competing in the 800 meters as he turned in an NCAA provisional time of 1:47.86 to place second in the event. The next day, the Kenyan native was part of the men's 4x400-meter relay team that placed third with a provisional qualifying time of 3:08.14.
A sophomore from Inglewood, Calif., Butler-Rayford averaged 17 points, 11 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.5 steals over two games for the Lady Frogs. She posted a pair of double-doubles to give her five for the season and four in Mountain West Conference play.
The 5-foot-11 forward established career highs in assists (4), blocks (2) and steals (4) against Wyoming. She led the team in rebounds against Wyoming and at New Mexico, while pacing the Lady Frogs in points at New Mexico.
