Frogs fall to New Mexico, 53-42

FORT WORTH, Texas--Mark Walters scored 19 points and grabbed five boards as the New Mexico Lobos defeated TCU 53-42 at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum Saturday.Senior Judson Stubbs had 14 points and 10 rebounds for his fourth career double-double to lead the Horned Frogs.
New Mexico (15-9, 6-5) shot 46.5 percent from the field while being held to its second-lowest point total of the year.
After scoring only four points on 1-of-23 shooting from the floor to start the game, TCU went on a 13-2 run to close the first half. Stubbs led the charge for the Frogs, scoring nine of the 13 and 10 of the team's 17 first-half points.
TCU trailed 23-17 at the intermission.
All four of Stubbs' career double-doubles have come this season.
After trailing by as many as 11 points in the second half, TCU closed within 36-30 on a pair of Brent Hackett free-throws with 7:51 to play.
The Lobos answered with back-to-back 3-pointers from Kris Collins and Walters to build their margin back to 12 points. The Frogs would not get closer than eight the remainder of the contest. Walters helped seal the game with four free-throws in the final 41 seconds.
Nile Murry scored 13 points and added seven rebounds in 35 minutes for TCU. Hackett dropped in seven points.
TCU (5-19, 1-9) outrebounded New Mexico 43-35, including 20-4 on the offensive end. The Frogs forced the Lobos into 19 turnovers.
Next up for TCU is a conference match-up with Air Force at home on Wednesday night. The Frogs look to avenge their Jan. 14 loss in Colorado Springs. Tip-off is slated for 7 p.m at Daniel-Meyer Coliseum.
