FORT WORTH, Texas - Sophomore diver R.J. Hesselberg was named the Mountain West Conference Men's Diver of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday. Hesselberg earned the honors for his efforts last weekend in the UNLV Winter Invitational.
Hesselberg won the three-meter diving event on Sunday with a career-best score of 337.10, which is also the second-highest score in TCU history. The score was nearly 64 points higher than the next competitor, and currently ranks third in the conference. Hesselberg posted a score of 303.00 in the one-meter dive, good for second place among 17 competitors.
The Saskatoon, Canada, native has now earned two weekly conference honors this season, and three in his career. The award is also the eighth won by the TCU men and women's swimming and diving team on the season.
The swimmers and divers will return to action on Jan. 8 in Flagstaff, Ariz., against Northern Arizona.
