FORT WORTH, Texas - R.J. Hesselberg and Jennifer Ferguson won the men and women's Mountain West Conference Diver of the Week awards, respectively, the league office announced Wednesday. Ferguson has won four consecutive weekly awards, tying a conference record.
Ferguson, a freshman from Beaconfield, Quebec, earned the honors after sweeping the diving events and slating the second-highest scores in TCU history in both the one- and three-meter dives against Centenary and San Diego State. In the one-meter, Ferguson scored a 298.27, while recording a personal-best score while at TCU of 331.13 in the three-meter dive. Ferguson's three-meter score is currently first in the conference. Ferguson remains undefeated on the season, boosting her collegiate record to 12-0.
By winning four consecutive weekly awards, Ferguson tied a Mountain West Conference record to join BYU's Rachelle Kunkel (1999-2000) and New Mexico's Becca Barras (2004-05) as the only female divers to earn the honors four straight weeks. Both Kunkel and Barras were seniors when they set the mark.
Hesselberg won his first weekly award of the season after setting personal bests and sweeping the one- and three-meter diving events against Centenary. The Saskatoon, Canada, native recorded a 312.66 in the one-meter, shattering his previous mark of 278.40. His score of 324.75 in the three-meter helped bring his season win total to four. The award marks the second time Hesselberg has received conference accolades in his career.
The TCU swimmers and divers will return to action on Dec. 16-18 at the UNLV Invite in Las Vegas, Nev.
