
TCU student-athletes excel during fall semester

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The TCU Athletics Department has announced that more than 200 student-athletes earned grade-point averages of 3.0 or higher during the 2005 fall semester and that the Horned Frogs posted a departmental cumulative GPA of 2.86, up from a 2.83 from the spring 2005 semester. In addition, 29 student-athletes graduated in the university's August and December ceremonies.
For the fall 2005 semester, 204 student-athletes (49 percent) earned semester GPAs of 3.0 or higher. Of that, 151 (36 percent) had higher fall GPAs than 3.2, while 103 (25 percent) were 3.5 or higher. Twenty-eight (28) student-athletes earned perfect 4.0 semesters, with 25 earning TCU Scholar Honors.
"We are very pleased with the academic performance of our student-athletes in the fall semester," TCU Athletics Director Danny Morrison said. "It's a great tribute to the teamwork between our Athletic Academic Services Office and our coaching staff."
The women's golf team earned the highest semester team grade-point averages (3.53), while also recording the highest cumulative team GPA (3.348). On the men's side, the Horned Frog tennis team posted the top semester team GPA (3.19) while also maintaining the top cumulative team GPA of 3.28. In all, 10 sport programs posted cumulative team GPAs above the 3.0 mark.
"I am very proud of our student-athletes and the manner in which they strive to maintain and reach their academic goals," said Chris Uchacz, Director of the Athletic Academic Services Office. "We are still striving to reach that 3.0 plateau as a department, and when we do, we will be among the nation's elite."
TCU recently honored 29 current and former student-athletes who graduated in the university's August and December ceremonies. Among the list of highly decorated graduates were - All-Americans, all-conference performers, TCU Scholars, TCU Dean's List recipients, conference medal and honor roll winners, United States Achievement Academy Academic All Americans and NCAA Degree Completion Award winners.
The 29 student-athlete graduates included: Shawn Brooks (football), Aaron Curtis (men's basketball), Kyle Dahlberg (baseball), Reeves Dalton (football), Ashley Davis (women's basketball), Aundre Edwards (men's track), Michael Frater (men's track), Laura Greenberg (women's soccer), Tye Gunn (football), Sandora Irvin (women's basketball), Kyle Kummer (football), Flander Malone (football), Jacob Martin (men's tennis), Christie McAdams (women's swimming), Scott McCure (men's swimming), Tim McGough (baseball), Jeremy Modkins (football), Jessi Moore (women's soccer), Ryan Nesloney (baseball), Niki Newton (women's basketball), Diego Palacios (men's swimming), Ranorris Ray (football), Ellen Rehme (volleyball), Fabrizio Sestini (men's tennis), Stephan Simmons (football), Shane Sims (football), Carly Snead (rifle), Andrew Ward (football) and Kenneth Wherry (men's swimming).
