Fort Worth, Texas - The TCU Women's rifle team will open the 2005-06 campaign today as they travel to California to take on the University of San Francisco. The Frogs expectations for this season have greatly increased this year as the team has grown both in numbers and experience.
After beginning last season with only six shooters on the roster, that number has jumped to 20 this year. Five of the original six members along with 11 walk-ons from last season, three incoming freshman, and 2003 All-American Celeste Green make up this year's team.
With such a large squad, the team will once again be able to seperate into two competition teams, Purple and White. For the match against San Francisco, the Purple team will feature Green as well as the Frogs' top-two shooters from last season, Emily Conway and Nikki LeCompte, along with talented freshman Tanya Gorin. The White team will be composed of a pair of sophomore letterwinners in Alicia Davis and Erin Lemmons and two gifted freshmen, Kristine Tisinger and Aida Garcia.
Head Coach Karen Monez is excited about the potential of this year's team and is looking forward to building on the foundation that they were able to lay last year. "As we enter the upcoming season, I look forward to the team steadily and consistently improving," Monez said. "I anticipate the team greatly improving its national rankings in both air rifle and smallbore."
