
TCU swimmers rake in MWC weekly honors

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - TCU's swimming and diving squads made big splashes in their opening week in the Mountain West Conference, nabbing three of the league office's four weekly awards. Erica Tate and Kelly Seely were named the Mountain West Conference Women's Swimmer and Diver of the Week, respectively, while Kelly McCain was named the MWC Men's Diver of the Week.
Tate, a junior, won four individual events and was a member of two winning relay teams last week. The Grapevine, Texas, native placed first in the 50-yard freestyle (24.11) and was a member of the first-place 200-yard freestyle relay and second-place 200-yard medley relay teams in a dual meet with Colorado State.
At the Early Bird Invitational in Fort Collins, Tate took top honors in the 50 free (24.25), 100-yard butterfly (58.43) and 100-yard freestyle (52.89). In addition, she was a member of the first-place 400-yard freestyle relay team and was part of the second-place 200-yard freestyle relay and third-place 200-medley relay teams.
Seely, a Friendswood, Texas, native, captured three first-place finishes and one third-place showing last week. The senior won the 3-meter (228.38) and placed third on the 1-meter board (228.38) in a dual meet with Colorado State. At the Early Bird Invitational, she took top honors on both the 1-meter and 3-meter boards with scores of 258.30 and 513.95, respectively.
A Corpus Christi, Texas, native, McCain placed second on the 1-meter and third on the 3-meter boards at the Early Bird Invitational in Fort Collins. He scored a 294.70 on the 1-meter board and a 506.55 on the 3-meter.
