Fort Worth, Texas - The TCU women's swimming and diving team swept the weekly C-USA Swimming and Diving accolades, the conference office announced today. Sophomore Erica Tate was named the Swimmer of the Week, while junior Kelly Seely was named the Co-Diver of the Week along with Louisville's Marianne Bradford. The pair helped the H2O Frogs improve their overall record to a perfect 7-0 last Wednesday with wins over North Texas and Incarnate Word at the University Recreation Center.
Tate earned her first weekly accolade this season as she won two individual events and was a member of both winning relays for the Frogs. In the opening event of the evening, the sophomore from Grapevine, Texas, teamed with Aimee Moreau, Tiffany Strawn and Leann Cathcart to win the 200-medley relay in 1:49.49, which was more than four seconds ahead North Texas' second place team. She then followed it up with two individual wins in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 23.78 seconds, which is the fastest time this season in C-USA, and in the 100-yard butterfly in 57.24.
Seely, a native of Friendswood, Texas, swept the one and three-meter diving events in her first competition of the season. The junior claimed the one-meter springboard event with a score of 230.63, which was 28 points higher than the second place finisher. Seely, who was named the C-USA Diver of the Week four times as a sophomore, completed the sweep when she finished with 233.70 points in the three-meter event.
The Frogs will return to action on Saturday when they travel to Springfield, Mo., for dual meets against Southwest Missouri State. The competition will be held at Hammons Student Center Pool beginning at 12 p.m.
