ST. LOUIS, Mo. -
The VolleyFrogs (3-7, 1-1 C-USA) dropped their first C-USA road match of the season against the Billikens (3-5, 1-0 C-USA) of Saint Louis University on Saturday. The Frogs fell short in a tough four-game match, 3-1.
TCU took the early lead in game one, then SLU tied the game at 12-12. The Frogs were able to rally and pull with three at 18-21, however the Billikens scored three straight, then extended their lead to as many as eight points before winning the game 30-25.
The Frogs gave up three points on service errors at the beginning of game two, ultimately allowing SLU to tie the game up at 10-10. TCU refused to let SLU take the lead, and finished off game two with a 30-22 win on an ace from senior Rachel Shirley.
Following intermission the Frogs had trouble getting things going. Billiken junior Colleen Hunter had three service aces during game three, including two in a crucial late game series in which the Billikens scored five straight points to lead 29-17. TCU managed to score once more on a kill from senior Marci King, then dropped game point on a service error from senior Allison Lynch.
The VolleyFrogs led much of game four, by as much as five points late in the game (28-23), but SLU fought back on a strong serving series from sophomore Shannan Swiney to take a 28-29 lead. The Frogs tied things up at 29, 30 and 31 all, only to fall behind on a kill from SLU's Hunter and ultimately drop the game 33-31 and the match 3-1.
"I was really disappointed in game four. We were in control all the way until the end, then we let it get away," said head coach Sandy Troudt. "Jennifer Cuca had a really good game - she led us in kills and digs tonight. Jennifer Sebastian is beginning to come around."
The Frogs head on the Louisville-Cincinnati junket September 28 and 29 in two C-USA matches. Both Louisville and Cincinnati competed in the 2000 NCAA volleyball tournament. TCU returns home on Friday, October 5 to take on Memphis at 7:00 p.m. in Daniel-Meyer.
