Terry Hughes begins his second season with the Horned Frogs in 2025. He serves as the throws coach.
In 2024 he helped guide TCU’s javelin duo to the NCAA Championship. Freshman Irene Jepkemboi earned First Team All-American honors as she finished fourth overall at NCAAs with her throw of 56.51m (185-4). She became TCU's first-ever All-American in the women's javelin in program history and was the Big 12 Champion in the event. Maria Bienvenu also punched her ticket to Eugene, placing fourth at the conference championship meet and 17th overall at nationals with her throw of 50.52m (165-9) in the javelin for Honorable Mention All-America honors. In the women's discus, Samantha Callaway medaled for a second-straight season at Big 12s. She took eighth with her season-best throw of 50.19m (164-8).
Hughes comes to Fort Worth after his previous stint at Louisiana. At Louisiana, Hughes served as an assistant coach for five seasons where he was responsible for coaching all throwing events and assisted in operations and logistics. During the 2022-23 season, Hughes guided Maria Bienvenu to Second Team All-American honors in the javelin (169' 3") for the second time in her career at the NCAA Outdoor Championships. Bienvenu, the 2022 Sun Belt Conference Outdoor Champion in the javelin, was one of four Ragin Cajuns to place in the top six in the javelin at the outdoor conference championships.
While at Louisiana, Hughes coached four Sun Belt Conference Champions. Additionally, Hughes' throwers have claimed three school records and 25 spots on Louisiana's All-Time Records List. Twenty-six Ragin Cajun student-athletes have garnered All-Sun Belt Conference honors.
Prior to serving as an assistant coach, Hughes was a volunteer track and field coach at LSU where he assisted the throwers with daily field training. He also played a major role in recruiting, operations and logistics and scheduling.
Hughes competed in the indoor weight throw and discus, as well as the hammer and javelin throws while competing as a four-year member (2012-16) of LSU's track and field team. He qualified for the NCAA Championships in his final season as a Tiger in the javelin.
Hughes graduated from LSU in 2016 with a degree in sports administration.
