Say Goodbye:
Friday signals the beginning of the last weekend at the TCU Diamond. But if that isn't enough to get you out, you at least owe it to yourself to come see Terry Trofholz. Once his career is over, Terry will go down as one of the best in TCU baseball history and here are just a few reasons why:
* Nation's fourth-leading hitter (.464 Batting Average).
* On pace to break Conference USA single-season batting average record of .427, set by Houston's Geoffrey Tomlinson in 1997.
* One point shy of TCU Batting Average record of .465, set by Mike Ramsey in 1985.
* On pace to break the TCU record of 94 hits set by All-American Royce Huffman in 1999.
* Leads team in batting average (.464), hits (84), runs (47), total bases (109), slugging percentage (.602), on-base percentage (.505) and stolen bases (20).
* Tops Conference USA in batting average, hits and on-base percentage, and ranks among the league's top 10 in runs (6th), total bases (t-7th), slugging percentage (7th), triples (t-5th), sacrifice bunts (2nd) and stolen bases (t-3rd).
* Has hit safely in 29 of his last 31 games, including a 21-game hitting streak from March 29-May 4.
Need we say more? We'll see you at the diamond this weekend. And while you are here, be sure and check out the progress being made on Lupton Stadium. Wow, it is going to be impressive!
Tough to See Him Go:
Longtime women's tennis coach Roland Ingram announced last month that this would be his last year at the helm of the program. Ingram has posted an impressive overall win-loss mark of 324-154, good for a .678 all-time winning percentage. In his 19 seasons at the top of the women's tennis program, his teams have posted 16 winning seasons and they've won four conference titles, including this year in C-USA. Hard to fault him though, says he simply wants to spend more time with the grandkids!
New Staff:
When Neil Dougherty told us he felt like he could put together a good staff, no one had any idea that it would look like this. New additions include, Rick Callahan, most recently an assistant at Penn State, and prior to that the Associate Head Coach at South Carolina and Vanderbilt with Eddie Fogler. Spend a minute with Rick and you can see how his energy will parlay over to these players. Kevin Lewis, a former SMU Mustang (we won't hold that against him) who most recently was with Dave Bliss at New Mexico and Baylor is also on board. Kevin's recruiting ties to the state of Texas will be huge! Jeff Luster comes to TCU from the University of Colorado, where he served as the Director of Basketball Operations for Ricardo Patton. And finally there is Jai Steadman, a former player at Nebraska who most recently was an assistant at Tyler Junior College. This group is very impressive. I can't wait for you to meet them!
Frogments:
For the 19th-straight semester, TCU's women's swimming and diving team has been honored as an Academic All-America Swimming Team by the College Swimming Coaches Association of America (CSCAA)...Be sure and welcome the newest addition to the TCU family in Tim George, who joins the staff as the new Marketing Director. Tim is making his way from the University of Georgia..."An interesting thing happened on the way to my wedding" sounds like the title of a movie doesn't it? Well Associate Media Relations Director Drew Harris experienced that first-hand when he got married in Waco a few weeks ago. As he and his bride Rachel are getting ready at the church, along comes a motorcade with British Prime Minister Tony Blair. (Blair was in nearby Crawford visiting the President). Prime Minister Blair stopped for a chat and photo op with both the bride and groom. Makes for a great wedding picture doesn't it?
From the streets and avenues of North Texas to the information super highway, I'm Brian Estridge. We'll see you on the radio.
