Horned Frogs storm back to win National Championship rematch

SAN LUIS OBISPO, Calif. – After falling to No. 4 USC, the eighth-ranked TCU beach volleyball team got behind early but stormed back for a statement victory over No. 7 LMU on Friday afternoon at Swanson Beach Volleyball Complex.

MATCH ONE - No. 8 TCU 2, No. 4 USC 3

For the third time this season, the match between TCU and USC came down to the final court, and for the third time this season the Horned Frogs fell to the Trojans 3-2.

USC took three of five first sets to gain some momentum early. Two of their first set victories would lead to sweeps, as the Trojans earned wins at Flights 1 and 5.

The Horned Frogs wouldn't back down, as Sofia Izuzquiza and Morgan Williams won simultaneously with Anhelina Khmil and Stacy Reeves to tie the match.

From there it came down to Flight 3, and Anna Long and Natalie Glenn dropped a heartbreaker in the third set, 17-15, to give the match to USC.

USC now leads the series 13-2, with three wins this season over TCU.
The Horned Frogs are now 4-4 in rematches this season.
Morgan Williams and Sofia Izuzquiza started their first match together.
Five of TCU's seven losses this season have come to top-five opponents.

MATCH TWO – No. 8 TCU 4, No. 7 LMU 1

In a National Championship rematch, TCU battled adversity to earn a resume-building win over No. 7 LMU.

The Horned Frogs fell behind early, dropping sets one on Flights 1-3, before fighting back to take set two on every court.

Opening up scoring for the Horned Frogs were Hannah Taylor and Melina Mol, who earned a swift sweep at No. 5. Right behind them were Sofia Izuzquiza and Morgan Williams, who battled for a sweep.

After LMU claimed Flight 1, Anna Long and Natalie Glenn were able to earn a hard-fought victory to clinch the match for the Horned Frogs.

On the final court, Anhelina Khmil and Stacy Reeves earned a three-set victory to cement the final score.

QUICK HITS

TCU is now 5-3 all-time against LMU, with two straight wins (the other being in the National Championship).
The Horned Frogs snapped a two match losing streak.
TCU had the same lineup for the second straight match.
The win mark TCU's second over a top-10 team this season, and its largest.
TCU has won at the 5's in 17 of the last 18 matches, and is 19-3 at the position this season.
