TCU looks to cement berth in the NCAA Championship match
FORT WORTH – Postseason play heats up for the TCU women's rifle team Saturday as they head to Air Force for the NCAA Qualifier match. The match is slated to get underway at 9:45 a.m. (CT).
The contest will serve as 50% of the team total that will determine the eight teams that will qualify for the NCAA Championships.
TCU enters the weekend holding the No. 3 spot in the NCAA Team standings with an average of 4,749.33. TCU top mark of the season, a 4,753, was fired at the Air Force range on Oct. 25.
Eight Horned Frogs will make the trek to Colorado Springs – Marissa Fedora, Micah Hames, Christina Hillinger, Mikole Hogan, Mackenzie Kring, Rylie Passmore, Alexandra Rosenlew and Katie Zaun.
TCU ranks in the top three nationally in both discipline. The Frogs are third nationally in air rifle average (2,383.00) and second nationally in smallbore average (2,354.71). The team's 4,737.71 season aggregate average is second nationally.
Seven Frogs rank in the top 40 nationally in air rifle average. Zaun sits seventh nationally with her season average of 597.39. Kring is the only other Frog in the Top 20 at 18th with an average of 595.85. Hogan also boasts a season average over 595 at 595.07. The other five shooters average well over 594 on the year.
In smallbore, the Frogs boast three shooters in the top 20. Zaun, who has fired a 590 or better in nine matches, sits third nationally with an average of 592.15. Passmore, who has shot a 590 or better in six of her last seven matches, ranks 13th nationally with an average of 588.50. Rosenlew has also been solid in smallbore this season, ranking 18th nationally with a 587.58.
Air Force enters the match on the outside looking in. They rank 13th in the team standings with a three score average of 4,705. On the year, the Falcons are average 2,321.50 in smallbore and a 2,372.33 in air rifle for an aggregate average of 4,693.83. Victoria Leppert is the Falcons top smallbore shooter with a season average of 582.08. Megan Torrence paces the squad in air rifle with a season average of 593.75.
