
Lagat Wins Men’s 5k Title at John McKenzie Invitational

TCU men and women place second in season opener
FORT WORTH – Junior Johnson Lagat won the men's 5k at the John McKenzie Invitational on Friday morning as TCU cross country opened the 2025 season with a pair of second place team finishes from the men and women.
Lagat was the lone runner under 15 minutes on the course at AP Ranch. The Kapsabet, Kenya, native after finishing second overall last season behind former teammate and now Puma Running Pro Graydon Morris. He ran a 14:59.20 to finish 25 seconds ahead of the next closest runner.
The women ran their way to a second-place finish led by Mckenzie Bailey. The junior was the only Frog in the top 10, crossing the finish line seventh in 18:26.63. Newcomers Anastacia Gonzales (transfer) and Megan Calhoun (freshman) had impressive runs in their TCU debuts. Gonzales finished 12th overall, followed by Calhoun in 14th. Senior Gabby Martin earned a 15th place result, and transfer Camryn Kirkland rounded out the scoring in 17th.
On the men's side, Iowa Western transfer Mohammed Kowa joined Lagat inside the top 10, running a 15:49.80. Returners CJ Meyer, Brayden Schick, Grant Martinez and Zach Troutman all logged top 20 finishes to help the men score 33 points, just 11 behind the Aggies in first place.
