FORT WORTH – The doubles pairing of Victoria Gomez O'Hayon and Yu-Chin Tsai competed in the doubles final as the TCU women's tennis team wrapped up play at the ITA Texas Regionals on Tuesday at Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
After receiving a first-round bye in the main draw doubles bracket, the two individuals rattled off four consecutive victories to make it to the doubles final on Tuesday morning. The pairing would eventually fall to No. 48 Na Dong and Zuzanna Kubacha from Baylor.
Tuesday did see two impressive victories for the Frogs, as Raquel Caballero Chica won the 3-4 playoff in the singles main draw bracket, defeating Texas Tech's Hailey Murphy, 7-6(4), 6-3. Letizia Corsini would also grab a victory to win the consolation final as well, taking down Francesca Maguina Bunikowska of Rice, 6-4, 7-5.
Tsai, Gomez O'Hayon, Corsini, Caballero Chica, Caroline Clark, and Tomi Main were the six players who represented TCU over the past six days.
In main draw singles, the Frogs had four individuals, Ramos Sierra, Caballero Chica, Gomez O'Hayon and Tsai reach the round of 16. Tsai would make it to the quarterfinals, while Caballero Chica had her winning streak main draw end one match away from qualifying for the NCAA Championships, as she was defeated in the semifinals.
Besides Tsai and Gomez O'Hayon's success, two other doubles teams represented TCU over the past few days at ITA Regionals, as Main and Corsini and Ramos Sierra and Caballero Chica were the two tandems for the Frogs. The pairing of Ramos Sierra and Caballero Chica was able to earn a quarterfinal appearance before their run was ultimately ended in that round.
Clark competed in the first round of qualifying singles, where she was defeated by Aoka Nagasawa of UTSA, 6-2, 6-0.
