Match is first of three straight away from home
FORT WORTH – The No. 5 TCU women's rifle team hits the road for a match against VMI Saturday at the IWLA Sills Rifle Range in Centreville, Va. Smallbore relays are scheduled to begin at 7:30 a.m., followed by air rifle at Noon.
Making the trek to Virginia this weekend will be Marissa Fedora, Micah Hames, Christina Hillinger, Mikole Hogan, Rylie Passmore, Ziva Swick, Anne White and Katie Zaun.
TCU sits in the top six nationally with season averages of 2,344 in smallbore, 2,379 in air rifle, and fourth nationally with a 4,723 in aggregate.
Zaun leads the Horned Frogs and is ranked No. 2 nationally in aggregate average at 1,188.45. She is also ranked No. 3 in air rifle with a 597.56 average and No. 4 in smallbore with a 590.89 average. Last weekend, she led all shooters with an aggregate score of 1,190, including a 599 in air rifle and 591 in smallbore.
Joining Zaun in the top 20 is Hogan who ranks No. 27 nationally in aggregate average at 1,180, which includes a 594 air rifle average that places her among the top 40 shooters in the country. Hogan also ranks in No. 21 nationally with a 588.17 smallbore average.
Hames and Passmore continue to improve week to week. Hames, averaging 593.17 in air rifle, ranks among the top 50 nationally and fired a career-high 598 in air rifle last weekend. Passmore, ranked No. 45 nationally in air rifle, averages 593 and matched her career-best score of 596 in air rifle in the last match. She holds a season aggregate average of 1,175.
Hillinger, with her 594 air rifle average, is ranked in the top 35 nationally and has a season aggregate average of 1,175. White contributed a season-best 596 in air rifle last weekend. Swick, averaging 593 in air rifle, has a season aggregate average of 1,172.
VMI averages 2,261 in smallbore, 2,314 in air rifle, and 4,575 in aggregate.
VMI competes with two teams, a mixed team and a women's team. Christopher Hicks leads the mixed team in all disciplines, average a 571 in smallbore and a 588 in air rifle, giving him an aggregate of 1,159. Darian Tweedell paces the women's squad in both disciplines.
