The Horned Frogs secure first ranked win and sweep of the season
HOUSTON – No. 4 TCU beach volleyball earned their first ranked win of the season over No. 15 Washington, 4-1, on the opening day of the Third Coast College Classic in Houston, Texas. Additionally, the Horned Frogs swept Central Arkansas to open the season 2-0.
Hailey Hamlett and Anhelina Khmil broke the program record for the largest margin of victory in their match against UCA's Katie Atkinson and Brooke Kuball from the No. 1 spot, winning 21-6 and 21-4. The last duo that held the record was Tania Moreno and Luana Araco with their 21-9, 21-5 win against Missouri State (April 15, 2022).
Along with Hamlett and Khmil, three other Horned Frogs delivered a perfect day. Keagan Polk, Emma Glagau and Morgan Williams all opened the season undefeated.
QUICK HITS AGAINST NO. 15 WASHINGTON:
• Emma Glagau and Ana Vergara won the first point of the season for TCU at the No. 4 spot: 22-20, 18-21, 15-12.
• This was the pairings' first showing and victory together. Additionally, it was Glagau's first appearance for the Horned Frogs in her freshman campaign.
• Vergara's win over the Huskies locked in her 33rd ranked win.
• Keagan Polk and Morgan Williams notched the second point for the Horned Frogs from the No. 5 position: 20-22, 21-12, 15-12.
• This was the pairings' first showing and victory together. Additionally, it was Williams' first appearance for the Horned Frogs in her freshman campaign.
• Polk's victory had her collecting her second ranked win of her career.
• The duo of Hailey Hamlett and Anhelina Khmil clinched TCU's first win of the season in a straight set-victory from the No. 1 spot: 21-15, 21-19.
• This was the two's first regular season appearance together.
• Hamlett notched her 26th ranked win, while Khmil earned her 15th.
• Sutton MacTavish and Tara Patton locked in point four in a straight-set victory from the No. 3 spot: 24-22, 21-19.
• This was the pairings' debut match together.
• The victory marked MacTavish's 28th ranked win and Patton's first.
• Alex Parkhurst and Anete Namike fell to Washington's Piper Monk and Maggy Rabitsch from the No. 2 position: 16-21, 21-10, 15-11.
• This was TCU's first ever match-up, and win, against Washington.
• TCU begins their season 1-0 against ranked opponents.
QUICK HITS AGAINST CENTRAL ARKANSAS:
• Keagan Polk and Morgan Williams scored the first point for TCU from the No. 5 spot in a straight-set victory: 21-17, 21-11.
• Both moved to 2-0 on the season. Polk's all-time record now stands at 12-0.
• Emma Glagau and Josie Sek from the No. 4 spot secured a second point for TCU in a straight-set victory: 21-6, 21-17.
• Glagau is 2-0 through her first two matches at TCU. This is Sek's sixth win for the Horned Frogs.
• Hailey Hamlett and Anhelina Khmil went 2-for-2 on clinched points for the day, securing the match for the Frogs: 21-6, 21-4. This straight-set victory was from the No. 1 position.
• Alex Parkhurst and Anete Namike bounced back from their earlier match, securing the fourth point for TCU, 21-9, 21-12, from the No. 2 spot.
• This is the duo's first win as Horned Frogs.
• Luana Araco and Kaitlyn Bradley secured the first sweep for TCU from the No. 3 position: 21-11, 21-10.
• This marks Araco's sixth win as a Horned Frog and Bradley's first.
• TCU remains unbeaten against Central Arkansas with a 6-0 all-time advantage.
