Diorio, Parra, Williams, Zaun recognized by TCU Athletics
FORT WORTH - Melanie Parra, Savion Williams, Katie Zaun and Bella Diorio were been named TCU Student-Athletes of the Month for October.
Melanie Parra had a stellar month, including being named the Big-12 Offensive Player of the Week twice and reaching her 1,000th kill. She also led the Frogs to their highest ranking of the season at No. 14 in the NCAA Selection Committee's in-season rankings. Parra averaged 5.19 kills per set in October as the Frogs went 6-2, including key victories over No. 14 Baylor and No. 23 BYU, handing the Cougars just their 11th home loss in the last 10 seasons.
Savion Williams led TCU in rushing yards in back-to-back wins with 72 yards against Utah and Texas Tech. Williams also had 148 yards on 12 receptions and two touchdowns in three games in the month of October. He also turned in the Frogs longest run and pass plays of the season, with a 35-yard carry and 75-yard reception that both went for touchdowns in the Frogs' win over Texas Tech.
Katie Zaun made history this month as just the ninth Horned Frog ever and second NCAA athlete this year to shoot a 600 in the air rifle. Zaun fired top marks in the air rifle, small bore and aggregate against No. 2 Georgia Southern and ranks top three in the nation in the air rifle and smallbore discipline.
Bella Diorio was named Big 12 Forward of the Year this month after scoring 11 goals this season. In the month of October, Diorio scored seven goals and recorded three assists as the Frogs went 6-0. The Frogs also clinched the Big 12 Regular Season title, their third title in the last five years.
