Match is home opener for the Horned Frogs
FORT WORTH – The No. 7-ranked TCU women's rifle team is set for its first home match Saturday when it host No. 10 Nebraska. The match is slated to get underway at 8:30 a.m. at the TCU Rifle Range.
TCU ranks in the top 6 nationally in both disciplines. The Frogs sit fourth nationally with a 2,356.67 smallbore average and sixth with a 2,376.67 air rifle average. It's season aggregate average of 4,723.33 is fourth-best in the nation.
All 12 members of the rifle team will participate in the match. Annie Downum, Kaylynn Slaughter and Gianna Yokoe will make their season debuts, while six Horned Frogs will be shooting their first home match in Marissa Fedora, Micah Hames, Christina Hillinger, Rylie Passmore, Meredith Stuart and Ziva Swick.
Katie Zaun joined the history books in the last match, shooting the program's ninth 600 in air rifle. She is one of two shooters nationally to accomplish the feat this season. On the year, she ranks third nationally with a 598 air rifle average, sixth nationally in smallbore average (590.33) and third nationally in aggregate average (1,188.33).
Along with Zaun, five other Horned Frogs are averaging a 590 or better in air rifle this season. Hillinger is second on the team with a 594 season average followed by Mikole Hogan (593.67), Rylie Passmore (591.00), Anne White (590.00) and Micah Hames (590.00).
Five Frogs are averaging a 580 or better in smallbore. Zaun's 590.33 leads the way followed by Hogan (588.00), Hillinger (584.33), Passmore (582.00) and Fedora (581.00).
Nebraska sits 10th nationally with its season average of 4,703.25. The Cornhuskers have a 2,338.5 smallbore average and a 2,364.75 air rifle average. Emma Rhode leads the team with a 1,184 aggregate average. She is the top air rifle shooter (593.25) and smallbore shooter (590.75).
At the conclusion of the match, the Frogs will honor Gianna Yokoe who will be shooting her final home match. Yokoe is set to graduate in December.
