TCU champions in three brackets
HOUSTON – TCU traveled down the Lone Star state to compete in the AVCA Central Bid Tournament Oct. 26-27. The Horned Frogs finished out the weekend with three pairings placed first in their individual brackets. Â
Deniela Konstantinova and Tania Moreno won the Bid Division after being the only pair from TCU to not drop a single set in a match. Â
In the Open Division, Kaitlyn Bradley and Emma Glagau placed first in the Gold Bracket, followed by Luana Araco and Brooke Sheely in the Silver Bracket. Â
Saturday featured pool play which determined the seeding of Sunday's brackets. Â
BID DIVISION Â
TCU sent three pairs to compete in the Bid Division at the tournament. Â
Deniela Konstantinova and Tania Moreno started the competition in Pool 1. Saturday the duo went 2-0, with wins over HCU's Palmer/Silverthorn and LSU's Ashush/O'Gorman. These wins put them as the No. 1 seed in the Bid Bracket for Sunday. Â
On the way to the first-place spot in the bracket, Konstantinova/Moreno faced off against SFA's Hansen/Rogers, TCU's Clines/Hamlett, LSU's Bailey/Bracken in the semifinals and TCU's Khmil/Navas in the championship. Over the weekend, the pairing never dropped a set. Â
Anhelina Khmil and Allanis Navas were paired up in Pool 2. The duo also went 2-0 Saturday and saw victory over SFA's Johnson/Ziegler and Texas' Hashman/Robertson. For Sunday, they were placed as the No. 2 seed. The duo made it to the bracket championship, downing TAMU-CC's de Melo/Moreno, Texas' Kuivonen/Parmelly, TAMU-CC's Bobay/Olsson. However, the duo had to forfeit the championship match, finishing the bracket in second place. Â
Olivia Clines and Hailey Hamlett went 1-1 in Pool 3. The duo lost to LSU's Martin/Meyer, but downed TAMU-CC's De Melo/Moreno. Sunday, the two were placed as the No. 9 seed. The pairing beat Texas' Hashman/Robertson, but fell to TCU's Konstantinova/Moreno, putting them in the fifth-place bracket. The two downed TAMU-CC's Morrow/Spaansen and Texas' Kuivonen/Parmelly them at a finish of fifth in the overall Bid Bracket. Â
OPEN DIVISION Â
TCU sent eight pairs to compete in the Open Division. Â
Stacy Reeves and Ana Vergara saw the first win for the Frogs in the division after downing HCU's Gardner/Vickery. In the afternoon, Sofia Izuzquiza switched for Reeves' spot. Her and Vergara downed LSU's Chatellier/Messier. The duo was placed as the No. 4 seed in the Gold Bracket on Sunday. No. 4 seed in the Gold Bracket. The two went on to down Texas' Butler/Patton, TCU's Sek/Williams, but fell to TCU's Bradley/Glagau (21-16, 21-16) in the final match of the tournament.Â
Kaitlyn Bradley and Emma Glagau went 2-0 in Pool 2 on Saturday, downing HCU's Patton/Sabol and LSU's Hall/Taylor. This put the two as the No. 2 seed in the Gold Bracket. On the way to the first-place spot in the bracket the duo faced off against LSU's Baker/Finlasson, TCU's Namike/Reeves and TCU's Izuzquiza/Vergara in the championship match. Â
In Pool 3, Luana Araco and Brooke Sheely went 1-1. The duo fell to LSU's Mueller/Taft, but saw victory over HCU's Armstrong/Lockhardt. The duo was placed as the No. 1 seed in the Silver Bracket. Before making it to the first-place spot in the bracket the two downed HCU's Foor/Vinitski, LSU's Meyers/Taft and TCU's Frist/MacTavish in the champion match. This win put the Horned Frogs at three bracket champion titles on the weekend. Â
Anete Namike and Reeves went 2-0 on Saturday, downing HCU's Foor/Vinitski and LSU's Baker/Finlason in Pool 4. Their undefeated record put the two as the No. 6 seed in the Gold Bracket. Namike/Reeves downed LSU's Hall/Taylor and Texas' Patton/Sonneville. However, the two lost to TCU's Bradley/Glagau in the semifinals. The two forfeited the third-place match to TCU's Sek/Williams, which put the two at a fourth-place finish. Â
In Pool 5, the Horned Frogs had two pairings. Â
Josie Sek and Morgan Williams went 1-1. The two downed LSU's Chambers/Evers, but fell to Texas' Butler/Patton. As the ninth seed in the Gold Bracket, the two downed two LSU pairings, Chatellier/Messier and Champbell/Henkel. However, the pairing fell to Izuzquiza/Vergara putting them in the third-place match. Due to a forfeit by Namike/Reeves, the two won and finished third.Â
The second pairing in Pool 5, Cam Guttell and Meg Walsh, went 0-2 on Saturday. The two fell to Texas' Butler/Patton as well as LSU's Chambers/Evers. They were placed as the 10th seed in the Silver Bracket and fell in the first round to HCU's Gardner/Vickery. After, they were moved to the Ninth-Place bracket where they beat HCU's Armstrong/Lockhardt and TAMU-CC's Magnan/Ranney.Â
In Pool 6, TCU also had two pairings. Â
Hallie Corinne Frist and Jordyn MacTavish went 1-1 on Saturday. The two fell to TCU's Chun/Kurz, but saw victory over TAMU-CC's Magnan/Ranney. As the No. 3 seed in the Silver Bracket on Sunday the two saw victories over TAMU-CC's Cortez/Kayser and LSU's Chambers/Evers. After falling to TCU's Araco/Sheely in the final bracket matchup, the two placed second. Â
Kassidy Chun and Alexandra Kurz were the second pairing for the Frogs in Pool 6. The two also went 1-1 on Saturday. After downing TCU's Frist/MacTavish, they fell to LSU's Campbell/Henkel. Sunday, featured the two Frogs as the No. 10 seed in the Gold Bracket. After losing their first match to LSU's Baker/Finlason, they were put in the Ninth-Place Bracket, where they fell to LSU's Hall/Taylor and Chatellier/Messier. This put the duo at a 12th place finish in their overall bracket. Â
