TCU Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Jeremiah Donati discusses the hot topics around the Horned Frogs
Dear Horned Frogs:
As the temperature is cooling down our fall seasons are heating up with lots of competitions…and winter sports are set to begin! We have a number of important items to share with you in this month's edition, beginning with the U.S. District Court's preliminary approval of the House v. NCAA class-action lawsuits settlement.
The hearing for final approval is scheduled for April 7, 2025 and if approved will be the most significant development in collegiate athletics since the advent of Title IX in 1972. The settlement will have a massive impact on TCU and every institution across college athletics and - beginning in Summer 2025 - our entire industry will operate under a new model.
The key items (should the settlement be approved) we know to date are below:
•Revenue Sharing
Institutions will be permitted to share revenue and compensate student-athletes effective July 1, 2025. The initial permissive revenue sharing cap will be approximately $21 million and will increase gradually over time as revenues across the power conferences grow. This is not mandatory and not every school will be able to provide this amount. As I have stated before, we have made the decision as an institution to fully participate at the maximum level and provide our student-athletes these new benefits.
•Roster Limits/Scholarships
All NCAA sports will now have roster limits instead of scholarship limits. Going forward, institutions will be permitted to provide as many scholarships as desired up to the roster limit. For example, the new roster limit in football will be 105 in comparison to the 129 currently on our roster. Schools could therefore award 105 scholarships instead of the previous cap of 85. We are reviewing the number of additional scholarships we will be able to provide as well as places where scholarships may be reallocated between sports.
•Back Damages
All Division I student-athletes who participated on teams in 2016-2021 are eligible for Name, Image and Likeness (NIL) back damages as the court found they were prevented from earning NIL dollars during their time in college. The negotiated settlement from both parties resulted in the NCAA (and its members institutions including TCU) set to pay nearly $3 billion in damages to those class members.
Naturally these changes come with major financial implications and our approach to funding these critical aspects of the settlement will be multifaceted. We are looking at a variety of cost-cutting and cost containment measures as well as reallocating current resources. Additionally, the need for new resources will remain a top priority - the importance of generating new revenue and continued donor support remain absolutely critical to helping us compete at the highest level. As we navigate forward and together, I assure you we will continue to demonstrate responsible financial stewardship of our resources in all of our decisions moving forward.
There has never been a more challenging time in collegiate athletics…yet I also see much opportunity for us at TCU. More than ever, your support on many different levels is needed as we strive to bring championships to Fort Worth.
CONGRATULATIONS, ELLIOTT

Please join me in congratulating proud Horned Frog Elliott Hill on becoming President and CEO of Nike, Inc. Elliott previously worked with the company for more than 30 years, most recently as president – consumer and marketplace, until his retirement in 2020.
Elliott is a visionary whose leadership has had an immeasurable influence on TCU. As Chairman of the Intercollegiate Athletics Committee of our Board of Trustees, he has been a mentor to our student-athletes and a trusted friend to me, coaches and so many others in our athletics program. Through his previous work with Nike, Elliott was instrumental in growing the TCU brand globally. We congratulate Elliott and know his impact on our student-athletes and their TCU experience will continue for years to come.

SPORTS REPORT
We currently have six sports nationally ranked and a seventh sitting just outside the top 25.
Football is at Utah on Saturday at 9:30 p.m. CT on ESPN. Playing the Utes brings back a lot of memories from the great games we had during our time together in the Mountain West Conference. We then host Texas Tech next Saturday, October 26, in our Homecoming game. Either late Saturday night or Sunday morning, we will know the kickoff time from our television partners.

Women's soccer, tied for first in the Big 12 Conference and up to No. 8 in the nation, is unbeaten in its last nine contests. We concluded an undefeated home season with a 5-1 win on Sunday over Arizona State. All five goals came in the first half. The previous week, Seven Castain scored four goals to lead us to a 6-1 victory at No. 14 Colorado and earn selection as the TopDrawerSoccer National Player of the Week. We return to action tonight at UCF.
Volleyball is ranked 18th nationally and swept Texas Tech, 3-0, in Lubbock last night. We host Cincinnati on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. We had an epic 3-2 win at No. 23 BYU last Saturday, taking the fifth and deciding set by an 18-16 score in front of nearly 4,000 fans. It was just the 11th home loss in 10 seasons for the Cougars. Melanie Parra is the first player in Division I women's volleyball history to receive back-to-back AVCA National Player of the Week honors. She currently leads the country with 6.03 points and 5.22 kills per set.

Equestrian is ranked third and continues Big 12 Conference play on Friday at No. 7 Fresno State. We posted back-to-back home wins over Oklahoma State and Baylor, preceded by a 10-8 victory at Georgia. Our defending national champion rifle program is eighth nationally and returns to action on Sunday in West Point, New York, against Georgia Southern.
Triathlon, in just its second year of competition, is ranked third and placed second at its Eastern Regional last weekend. Men's cross country has finished first in all four meets this fall, while our women's program has won three of its four races. Swimming and diving begins its season this weekend at Texas A&M.
No. 23 women's golf, our latest program to crack the top 25, has enjoyed a strong fall that has been highlighted by its championship at the Bettie Lou Evans Invitational in Nicholasville, Kentucky. We won the title by 12 strokes over host Kentucky. Men's golf has had a pair of top-10 results.

Our women's tennis doubles team of Tomi Main and Yu-Chin Tsai reached the ITA Texas Regional Finals at TCU earlier this week. The defending NCAA Champion men's tennis program has also been active. Our 12 victories at the U.S. College Cup Invitational led all teams, while Pedro Vives and Lui Maxted qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships with their run at the ITA All-American Championships.
Based on number of votes received, women's basketball is 27th in the Preseason Associated Press Top 25. We open on Tuesday, November 5, by hosting Houston Christian at 6:30 p.m. Men's basketball has a November 1 exhibition against Arkansas at Dickies Arena before its Monday, November 4, season debut versus Florida A&M at 7:00 p.m. in Ed and Rae Schollmaier Arena.
TCU GIVES DAY – CHALLENGES MET
Thank you to everyone who helped make this year's TCU Gives Day such a success! We exceeded our goal of 400 donors, reaching 427 with $113,420 received. In the process, we successfully fulfilled challenges from Saylor Pace ($50,000, Block T Challenge) and Jack Hesselbrock and Richard Sybesma ($5,000, Frog Club Challenge).
Saylor is a former volleyball student-athlete for us, while Jack and Richard were longtime staples in our athletics program. Jack served in just about any administrative capacity you can imagine, while Richard was our longtime swimming and diving head coach. I believe he also taught half the city of Fort Worth how to swim. Thank you, Saylor, Jack and Richard for your continued involvement in TCU!
The most popular funds contributed to during the challenge were the Frog Club with 163 donors for student-athlete scholarships, while the Block T Association had 56. Our national champion men's tennis program was our top sport recipient with 28 donors, and it was great to see the Student Frog Club with 22.

We are excited to support Como Elementary and have a strong TCU presence on its campus.
HALL OF FAME WEEKEND

It was great to see our outstanding 2024 TCU Athletics Hall of Fame class formally inducted earlier this month.
This 56th edition of TCU Hall of Famers featured Marcus Cannon '10 (football), Jason Coats '12 (baseball), Lisa Ford '90 (track & field), Tom Hoge '11 (men's golf), Helena Sverrisdottir '11 (women's basketball), David Walker '83 (track & field) and former men's tennis coach Bernard James "Tut" Bartzen.
The class was officially inducted Thursday, October 3, at a banquet in the Brown-Lupton University Union Ballroom. The group gathered the next morning for Breakfast & Buckles at Bowie House in Fort Worth. Later that afternoon, they celebrated their portrait unveiling in the Jane & John Justin Hall of Fame in Schollmaier Arena. The group was then recognized between the first and second quarters of the football game versus Houston.
FIST BUMP

This month's Fist Bump goes to Director of Ticket Operations Dan Riester. In addition to being well known throughout our department for being a phenomenal teammate and resource to so many of our staff, Dan has an unbelievable commitment to his job and how TCU is represented to the public. Many of you have interacted with Dan on Ticket Office or Frog Club questions. He is indeed the model of customer service. His efforts on our behalf went next level when we hosted a volleyball tournament last month. Dan could be seen outside the Parrish Family Athletics Ticket Office personally cleaning the windows in advance of the public arriving. Dan, you set the standard for all of us in taking pride in your job and TCU!
DID YOU KNOW?
As football prepares for Saturday night's game at Utah, did you know ESPN's College GameDay was on site the previous two times we played the Utes? GameDay's first visit to TCU was our 2009 game versus Utah when an Amon G. Carter Stadium record crowd of 50,307 was on hand for our 55-28 victory. We then won 47-7 the next season in Salt Lake City behind a career-high 355 yards passing from Andy Dalton.
