
TCU Sits Second After Day 1 At PRC Championships

Johannessen sets NCAA smallbore record
FAIRBANKS, Alaska – Julie Johannessen's NCAA record score of 598 in smallbore highlighted the first day of the Patriot Rifle Conference championships. No. 1 TCU sits second after Day 1, firing a team score of 2,360.
Johannessen's record-breaking performance came in the day's second relay. She fired a 199 in the kneeling position and followed with a 199 in prone. She capped off the performance with a perfect 200 in standing.
No. 2 Alaska-Fairbanks took home the smallbore championship, shooting a team score of 2,365. No. 6 Nebraska sits third (2,384) followed by No. 11 Ohio State (2,339), No. 7 Air Force (2,333) and UTEP (2,265).
Johannessen, along with Katie Zaun, qualified for the smallbore finals. Johannessen advanced to the gold medal match and finished second individually. Zaun took home bronze.
Serving as counters in the match were Johannessen, Zaun, Kristen Hemphill, Abigail Gordon and Mikole Hogan. Zaun fired a 593, while Hogan contributed a 585 and Hemphill a 584. Gordon shot a 583.
While not factoring in the team score, Anne White fired a season-high 587. Nina Schuett shot a 586 and Stephanie Allan a 583 to round out TCU's shooters.
The PRC Championships conclude Sunday with air rifle. The first relay will begin at Noon (CT).
