TCU Sweeps First Day of Horned Frog Challenge

For the first time in program history, TCU swept No. 16 Stetson, 5-0.

FORT WORTH -- No. 5 TCU beach volleyball (6-0) finished its first day of play at the Horned Frog Challenge 2-0. The Horned Frogs took down two top 20 opponents, No. 18 South Carolina, 4-1, and No. 16 Stetson, 5-0. The victory over the Hatters marks the first time in program history that the Horned Frogs have swept a ranked opponent.

Four Frog pairings had a perfect day: Alverez/Moreno, Filippone/Hamlett, Gonzalez/Vergara and Muret/Scott. TCU won nine of 10 matches overall, including seven in straight sets.

QUICK HITS AGAINST No. 18 South Carolina:

Muret and Scott scored the first point for the Horned Frogs, winning in two sets at the No. 5 position: 21-12, 21-18.
This is the duo's fourth win together as a pair.
The pairing is now 3-0 against ranked opponents.
Both individuals remain unbeaten this season, Muret 5-0, Scott, 4-0.
Gonzalez and Vergara won the next match in three sets at the No. 4 position: 21-17, 17-21, 15-12.
The duo improves to 3-0 as a pair and in ranked wins.
Vergara is perfect 4-0 in three set matches, she has yet to lose a three set match this season.
Filippone and Hamlett clinched the match for TCU in a two-set victory at the No. 3 position: 21-17, 21-16.
Alvarez and Moreno scored the final point for the Frogs at No 1: 21-16, 21-15
The duo improves to 5-0 on the season and 31-9 over their collegiate careers together.

QUICK HITS AGAINST No. 16 Stetson:

Muret and Scott scored the first point of the match in a two-set victory at the No. 5 position: 21-11, 21-11.
20 points is the largest margin of victory by any Frog pairing on the day.
The duo improves to 5-0 as pair and 4-0 against ranked opponents.
Gonzalez and Vergara took the second point in a two-set victory at No. 4: 25-23, 21-17.
The duo improves to 4-0 on the season and in ranked wins.
This is the pairing 30th career win as a pair, they improve to 4-0 on the season.
Hailey Brockett and Sutton MacTavish clinch the match for TCU in a two-set victory at the No. 2 position.
This is the duos first victory as a pair.
Brockett achieves her 59^th career win which ties her for the second most in program history, three behind program leader, Jaelyn Greene.
Brockett is 3-3 on the season, MacTavish improves to 4-2.
Alvarez and Moreno score the next point in a two-set victory at the No. 1 position: 22-20, 21-13.
The Spanish phenoms achieved their 15^th career ranked win and improved their career winning percentage to 78 percent (32-9).
The duo remains perfect, 6-0, and perfect 4-0 against ranked opponents this season.
Filippone and Hamlett scored the final point in a three-set victory: 20-22, 21-18, 15-10
This is the duos second win and second ranked win as a pair.
This is the first time in program history that the Frogs have started a season 6-0.
TCU achieves its third 5-0 victory of the season.

The Horned Frogs take on three teams, No. 19 Georgia State, No. 3 Florida State and Central Arkansas tomorrow on the final day of the Horned Frog Challenge. TCU plays its first match of the day against GSU at 11:30 a.m. on the TCU Beach Volleyball Courts.
