TCU Claims Two Victories on Final Day of March to May

TCU matches the program record with six ranked win of 2021

Gulf Shores, Ala. -- No. 9 TCU beach volleyball (10-3) won a pair of matches, including a win over No. 18 Georgia State on the final day of the March to May tournament hosted by UAB. The Horned Frogs defeated No. 18 GSU, 4-1, before sweeping the hosts, UAB, 5-0, to finish out the weekend with three victories.

TCU has now won six matches over ranked opponents this season, tying the program record for most ranked wins in a single season, less than halfway through the campaign.

QUICK HITS VS. GEORGIA STATE:

TCU took down No. 18 Georgia State with wins on the top four courts.
The No. 4 pairing of Trinity Cavanaugh and Tara Patton earned the first point for the Frogs with a come from behind, three-set win.
After dropping the opening set by a wide margin, Cavanaugh and Patton regrouped to secure a 22-20 victory in the second before dominating the third set, 15-7.
The momentum gained from the performance from the No. 4 pairing caried over into the next three matches, as TCU swept the top three courts.
Daniela Alvarez and Tania Moreno Mateeva were back in strong form at No. 1, claiming a 21-12, 21-12 victory in runaway fashion.
This was their 10^th win of the season together, the most wins by a TCU pairing this season.
All 10 of their victories this season have come in straight sets.
Maria Gonzalez and Rochelle Scott returned to their winning ways with a hard-fought two-set win at No. 3.
The duo was pushed in its second set, needing 25 points to overcome their opponents: 21-14, 25-23.
Gonzalez/Scott are now 5-1 in all sets extending beyond the regular 21-point threshold.
Olivia Blackburn and Hailey Brockett showed their veteran leadership to give TCU it's fourth point of the day on court two.
The duo overcame losing its first set to defeat their opponents in a thrilling three-setter: 17-21, 21-15, 16-14.
This was just the second time this season one of their sets had gone to extra points, they are 2-0 in those instances.
This was the first time that Blackburn/Brockett had won a match after losing the first set.
This was the sixth ranked win of the season for TCU, matching the program record set in the 2019 season.

QUICK HITS VS UAB:

TCU recorded its third 5-0 sweep of the season.
The Frogs are 2-0 against UAB this season after defeating the Blazers, 3-2, at home earlier this year.
The Horned Frogs won 10 of 11 sets today, tied for their largest margin of victory, as a team, this season.
Caroline White and Peyton Yamagata recorded their first win of the season together at No. 5.
They overcame a loss earlier in the weekend to give TCU a 1-0 lead to close out their weekend.
After a grueling three-set win the match before, Cavanaugh and Patton secured another three-set victory to put TCU ahead, 2-0.
The duo rewarded the coaching staff for their persistence. After dropping both matches on Saturday, Cavanaugh and Patton went 2-0 in two tight three-set matches to close out the weekend.
The top three pairings all won in straight sets to give TCU the sweep.
Alvarez/Moreno won both their sets by six points to finish the weekend with a 4-1 record, they are now 11-2 as a pair.
Gonzalez/Scott won their sets by an average of 5.5 points. They are now 8-3 as a pairing, delivering their fourth undefeated day together.
Blackburn/Brockett finished off the Blazers with a straight set win at No. 2 by an average margin of 6.5 points per set.
They finished the weekend with a 4-1 record, improving their season record to 10-1 together, the highest winning percentage on the team.
TCU won eight of 10 matches over the weekend from their top two pairings.
