Grundsoee fires perfect air rifle score
EL PASO – Stephanie Grundsoee became just the third TCU Horned Frog to fire a perfect air rifle score headlining another strong day on the range as No. 1 TCU defeated UTEP 4,695-4,531.
Grundsoee joins TCU legends Sarah Scherer (2011) and Mindy Miles (2015, 2017) to fire a 600 in air rifle. It's just the 11th time in NCAA history the feat has been accomplished.
Using a lineup featuring two new faces in Nina Schuett and Stephanie Allan, the Frogs turned in solid team scores of 2,326 in smallbore and 2,369 in air rifle.
As has been the case all season, Grundsoee paced all shooters in both disciplines. Along with her perfect air rifle score, she contributed a 593 in smallbore to post a career-high 1,193 aggregate score. Abigail Gordon was second among shooters with a 1,173 aggregate tally.
The Frogs owned four of the top smallbore scores in the match. Schuett fired a 579 followed by a 579 from Gordon and a 576 from Grace Taschuk. Making her season debut, Noelle Christensen shot a 561.
In air rifle, the Frogs also held the top four spots. Gordon matched her career high, shooting a 595. Taschuk fired a 589 and Schuett a 585. Allan sat seventh with a 579, while Christensen shot a 571.
UTEP fired a team score of 2,223 in smallbore and a 2,308 in air rifle. The Miners were led by Jennifer Windle's 1,150. She was their top shooter in smallbore with a 570 as well as air rifle with a 580.
TCU returns to the range on Sunday at Air Force. The Frogs, Falcons and Miners will take part in a triangular match starting at 9 a.m. (CT).
