TCU reached the quarterfinals in its first ever CCSA Championship appearance.
EMERSON, Ga. (April 20, 2019) – The No. 18 TCU beach volleyball team bowed out of the CCSA Beach Championship by losing in the quarterfinals to No. 3 Florida State, 5-0, at the LakePoint Sporting Community in Emerson, Ga., on Saturday afternoon.
The Horned Frogs (18-16, 6-8) began the day in a single elimination bout against No. 10 seed UAB (14-17, 3-12). Quality starts were abundant for the Frogs as they won every single first set en route to sweeping the Blazers. Claire Doyle and Jordan Westendorff led the team with a 21-13, 21-7 win over Brittney Munro and Brooke Stansel on court four.
The No. 1 seed Seminoles (26-5, 16-1) awaited TCU in the quarterfinals. Florida State jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Seminoles won the first set on every court and used that momentum to close out courts one through four. Avery Arellano and Hailey Brockett were able to win their second set, but the Seminoles pair of Macy Jerger and Kate Privett won the third set to complete the sweep.
Quotes from the Coach
Head Coach Hector Gutierrez
"This is never the way you want to finish the season, but Florida State was better today and they deserved to win. I'm really proud of this group of girls. Our seniors had their last game today and that's always something special. We accomplished a lot of good things this season as a team and as individuals. We improved every week and the future is bright for us. The girls know it and that is giving us a lot of confidence heading forward. Thanks to everyone that followed us along the way. There's more to come next year."
Up Next
The Frogs season comes to an end. The team only loses four players from an 18-win squad and is bringing in a talented recruiting class for next season.
