Beach: Horned Frogs Split with FGCU, UAB

In the win over UAB in the second match of the day, four of the five matches went to three sets, and No. 1's Haven Hill and Cassie House defeated UAB's Devon May/Kenley Adams, 21-11, 18-21, 15-12, to secure the win for the Horned Frogs.
"We have grown after the tough weekend we had in California, and we're more competitive and more calm in these situations. We needed the three tiebreaks, and the girls are doing a good job under pressure," TCU beach coach Hector Gutierrez said. "The girls finally got a win under their belts after a long time, and I'm happy for them."
Jordan Westendorff and Brooks Sassin notched TCU's first win in the match by defeating UAB's Erin Bognar/Emily Martinez, 17-21, 21-11, 15-9. Jaelyn Greene and Jillian Bergeson needed just two sets to beat Kaylee McClure/Tressa Buckland, 21-19, 21-19, before House and Hill won the match-clincher.
Jensyn Bledsoe and Molly Scheel went three in beating Avei Logoleo/Haley Jared 21-16, 19-21, 15-13, for the Horned Frogs' final point.
The Horned Frogs are back in action Sunday when they meet UNC-Wilmington at 9 a.m. (CT) at Wheeler Beach before closing out the weekend with No. 8 South Carolina at 1 p.m. (CT).
"It's going to be a hard day, and everything is going to be tough," Gutierrez said. "We need to keep being competitive and the matches will probably go down to three sets, and we need to have the same concentration level we did today."
In the loss to FGCU, the two teams split the first two matches with Sassin/Westendorff beating Alayna Ryan/Kaitlan Krivdo, 21-11, 21-18. The Frogs and Eagles then split matches No. 1 and No. 3 with House/Hill defeating Mackenzie Allen/Amanda Carroll, 21-7, 21-18 at No. 1.
In the decisive match, Bledsoe/Scheel dropped a 18-21, 17-21 decision to FGCU's Giovanna Borgiotti/Ashley Glickert.
