
Rifle Finishes Third at NCAA Championships

Kentucky took home the National Championship after shooting a combined score of 4,717. West Virginia's run of five straight titles ended after posting a second-place finish with an aggregate score of 4,708. Murray State (4,684), Air Force (4,669), Alaska (4,667), Ohio State (4,664) and Nebraska (4,655) rounded out the field of eight.
Shooting in the first relay for the Frogs were Elizabeth Marsh, Rachel Garner and Casey Lutz. Lutz paced the Frogs first group with a score of 596. Garner fired a 591 followed by a 590 from Marsh.
The second relay featured Mindy Miles and Ariana Grabowski. Miles turned in a mark of 598, while Grawbowski fired a 589.
Both Lutz and Miles qualified for the finals. Lutz finished seventh individually after shooting a 143.2 in the finals. Miles turned in a fifth place showing, falling in a shootout with fourth place finisher, Sagen Maddalena of Alaska. She shot a finals score of 185.5.
The Horned Frogs had yet another successful season under the guidance of head coach Karen Monez. They shot a score of 4,700 or better in all but one match this season. The Frogs fired eight of the top 10 team air rifle scores, four of the top 10 team smallbore scores and four of the top 10 aggregate scores in program history.
