
Frogs Stand in Second at Wyoming Desert

PALM DESERT, Calif. – Led by Stefano Mazzoli's 3-under 69, the TCU men's golf team wrapped-up the opening round of the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in second place after a 1-over 289.
The sophomore carded five birdies to end the first round in a tie for second place with Colorado's Spencer Painton and Kansas' Charlie Hillier, two shots behind leader Xiong Norman of Oregon (-5). It was the fourth time this season Mazzoli shot under 70. Two weeks ago at the Amer Ari Invitational, Mazzoli shot a career-best 65 in the first round.
The Frogs were seven shots behind defending national champion and No. 10 ranked Oregon. TCU will enter the second round on Saturday ahead of No. 24 ranked Colorado (+3), No. 5 Texas Tech (+4) and No. 34 Kansas (+5).
TCU Notables
- Including Mazzoli, TCU has three in the top 15. Sophomore Pierre Mazier is tied for 11th place after shooting an even-77. Sophomore Triston Fisher is tied for 15th place after a 1-over 73.
- Mazier recorded an eagle on the par-5 14th hole.
