SPRINGTOWN, Texas -- The No. 8 ranked TCU equestrian program opened its 2015-16 season Friday, hosting its annual Purple and White Scrimmage. The Purple captured a 10-4 victory over the White at Turning Point Ranch.
The Rundown
The Purple team made quick work of the White squad in Western, riding to a 5-1 victory. They did most of their damage in Reining, sweeping the White, 3-0. Meloney Morris got the Frogs rolling with a 75-73.5 MOP victory over Elana Ranhoff. Carley Montemuro and Abbey Kleiwer were also victorious in the event, dropping Hunter De Jane and Conner West, respectively.
In Horsemanship, senior Colby Plott dropped freshman Kassi Jones, 73-72.5, while Elizabeth Bohn scored a 73-69.5 decision over Alex Stark. On the White side, Carly Epp rode Jake to a 72.5-70.5 win over Alexis Solakian.
On the Hunt Seat side, the Purple squad was able to secure a 5-3 victory Friday, which was thanks in large part to its work in Equitation over Fences. Senior Kate Hamel led the way, scoring an MOP by recording an 82-67 victory over Emery Hanson. Marisa Malevitis and Jada Taylor also shined, dropping Haley Giddings and Olivia Cerino, respectively. Julia Finn posted the lone win for the White squad, scoring a 63 on May to drop Madison Billings.
The two squads battled to a 2-2 draw in Equitation on the Flat. Purple notables included Mady Fithian, who scored an MOP ride on Queso, while Taylor posted her second victory of the day with a 61-50 win over Kayla McCarthy. Giddings and Cerino wrapped up the White scoring, totaling scores of 63 and 64, respectively.
