Horned Frogs Fall in Malibu

FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU sand volleyball team faced its second double-header on Wednesday and fell to two top-5 teams, No. 2 Pepperdine and No. 4 Florida State, 5-0 at Zuma Beach in Malibu, Calif.
The Horned Frogs (0-8) battled the two-time defending national champion Waves (3-1) to open the day, before ending the double-header with the 2014 runner up Seminoles (4-2).
"We knew today was going to be a challenge," head coach Erik Peterson said. "We played two very experienced teams and it was the Frogs first time competing on the coast. The wind was definitely a new element to play in and we struggled to adapt."
In the opening match, TCU faced a tough fight with Pepperdine and the Waves proved to be too much as they swept all six of the matches in straight sets. Sutton Sunstrum led TCU in the first set of matches with seven kills, while also notching an ace. Shane Peters finished her match at the No. 1 spot with eight digs to go along with two kills.
In the double header finale, the Frogs once again faced tough competition from Florida State who was able to take victories on all of the courts to take the 5-0 victory. Sunstrum and Ashley Smith each picked up eight kills in their matches, while Natalie Gower had seven kills against the Seminoles.
TCU will continue its road trip by heading to Los Angeles, Calif., to take on No. 3 USC on Thursday, March 12 at 7 p.m., CT. Fans can watch a live stream of the match on USC's Pac-12 Network Web Portal.
